UPDATE:

At 12-3 Lincecum and Webb have won 80% of their decisions - the best in the NL. Lohse was doing better but that's no longer the case.

Another update:

While Lincecum's 2.68 appears tied with Peavy's 2.68 for best in the NL, if you look more closely, Lincecum is just behind. BUT, Lincecum has the best ERA+ in the NL which is actually more meaningful since it factors in parks and what not. Peavy plays in the best pitcher's park in baseball.

Today was horrible though - 4.1 IP, 1H, 7K and then a line drive hit his leg. X-rays are negative but he left the game.

Worst-case scenario his season is over (that's unlikely). He has pitched exactly 162.0 innings so he's eligible for an ERA title and all that.

I was so worried about him.

I just watched the injury and it was with the FSN Houston announcers. I'm not all that familiar with them, but I thought it was kind of unprofessional that they didn't even talk about the injury. They just said "there's a line drive and Lincecum looks hurt" and then proceeded to go off talking about nothing even thought the trainers came out and they showed the replay like 50 times.

Even less professional was this comment as he was helped off the field
"(to other person in booth)We're going to have a lot of time to talk (laughs) they're going to bring in a new pitcher".

Umm....I don't think you'd laugh if Oswalt got hurt. I wouldn't laugh even if someone like Guerrero got hurt, you don't laugh at injuries when they happen. In retrospect maybe (if they're just so stupid that you can't help but laugh and everything turned out fine) but not before you even know what is wrong.

Lincecum OK after line drive pelts knee

HOUSTON -- "The Franchise" appears safe.

Giants ace Tim Lincecum sustained a bone bruise Tuesday night when Brad Ausmus' line drive struck him on the side of his right knee during the fifth inning of San Francisco's 12-4 loss to the Houston Astros. X-rays taken at a hospital near Minute Maid Park revealed no fracture, and Lincecum was said to be walking freely upon returning to the stadium late in the game.

Whether Lincecum makes his next scheduled start Sunday at Atlanta will depend on his recovery and the results of follow-up examinations in coming days.

"It's hard to say right now," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said.

But center fielder Aaron Rowand had no trouble summarizing the Giants' reaction once they learned that Lincecum, a National League All-Star and the Major League leader in strikeouts with 182, wasn't seriously injured.

"We're all very relieved that it's just a bone bruise," Rowand said. "We all care about him, not only as a teammate but as a person, too. He got lucky. I've seen people get hit in the chest and miss the rest of the year with blood clots and all kinds of stuff. I told him that there were a lot of worse places he could have gotten hit -- pitching hand, pitching elbow, shoulder, face, you name it."

"Concern was there, and you're hoping for the best," Bochy said. "There's not a lot of meat on those bones."

Leading off Houston's fifth, Ausmus smashed a 3-1 pitch up the middle. The ball caromed off Lincecum's knee so hard that first baseman John Bowker easily recorded the putout. Meanwhile, Lincecum crumpled to the ground and rolled head over heels in pain.

Bochy said that the impact of Ausmus' drive briefly "paralyzed" Lincecum. The right-hander tried to stand but limped off the field to the clubhouse, ushered by head athletic trainer Dave Groeschner. Lincecum was not available for comment after the game.

It had been a typical performance for Lincecum until Ausmus batted. Lincecum allowed one hit and struck out seven. Houston scored a pair of tainted runs off Lincecum in the third inning. A Darin Erstad double that left fielder Fred Lewis struggled to corral and a fielding error by second baseman Emmanuel Burriss accounted for the scoring.

Lincecum also scored from first base on Randy Winn's two-out double in the fourth inning. Despite that all-out sprint, Lincecum had enough energy to strike out the side in the bottom of the fourth.

The Astros' admiration for Lincecum was as obvious as their regard for his health.

"You don't want the kid to be injured, because that's an awfully talented young man," manager Cecil Cooper said.

"I hope he's all right," said right-hander Roy Oswalt. "He's a great competitor, and I like the way he goes about his business."

He is THE FRANCHISE.

Yeah he was! The people at sfgiants.com say he should make his next start At least it hit his leg and not face/knee.

Im pretty sure the article and sportscenter said it got his knee.

Well it said the side of his knee and he has a bone bruise. Since the patella bone is pretty small, I'd guess it got more of his shin than anything. A direct shot to the knee could be a devastating injury.

Oh i know! that would kill.

Face, elbow, and shoulder wouldn't be much better. Or chest. Actually anywhere would probably suck.

Giants bullpen sucks! Lincecum leaves with 7.2 IP, 10K, 3H but there was a runner on base. Of course said runner scores

2.60 ERA is still the best in the NL and the bullpen can't ruin his line further.

The score is 3-1 Giants with an inning to play so the worst he can do is a no-decision.
