He one of them umps that always wears a black short sleeve shirt behind the plate; even in bitter cold weather; Like Doug Eddings and Derryl Cousins always do



Bell sure sweats a lot

He had sweat all over the front of his shirt



Maybe Umps should wear the Outside [ Big Balloon] Protectors in hot weather

Those protectors have to be cooler!!

I like the outside protectors


Last Umpire to wear it was Jerry Neudecker in 1985

The American League banned them in 1977

The National League had used the inside one since the 30's

New Umpires had to use the inside ones while current umps were grandfathered in; Most switched, retired or died by 85; leaving Neudecker the last one; Neudecker was fired after the 85 season [ Not Switching? Perhaps?] He later filed a wrongful termination suit that was settled out of court in 1988
