The IOC is a joke They won't do nothing about this When China runs the World in 20 years, we can all blame the IOC and the leaders of the West for not standing up to the yellow horde

| Phelps has done it! He wins by just one-hundredth of a second! Sadly, he did not set the world record and had to settle for an Olympic record. He has tied Spitz with 7 gold medals 1 event to go, the 4X100 medley relay. 7 events, 7 golds, 6 world records, 7 Olympic records. | |

| I originally posted this elsewhere, but perhaps it belongs here.... This new scoring system is complete garbage A 33 year-old German vaulter had two vaults with near perfect landings while a Korean vaulter landed out of bounds and took steps on each of her vaults. The results: The German gets a silver The Korean gets a gold Long gone are the days of the perfect 10.0. Instead there's two scores - an A score which is the degree of difficulty which can theoretically be up to infinity points (although it's generally 5-7) and a B score which is the execution which is out of 10. With this new system, a very difficult but poorly executed routine is better than a difficult, but not exceedingly difficult, routine with perfect execution. Isn't gymnastics (or more precisely ARTISTIC gymnastics) supposed to be about art/grace/beauty? As I'm neither Korean nor German and neither one of those countries is a threat to the US in the medal standings, I'm not biased. Here's where the bias sets in.... A Chinese vaulter FELL DOWN on her stomach and did not even complete her vault yet still got a higher score (by 0.025 points) than the American who took two small steps on her vaults but otherwise executed them properly and landed in bounds. The Chinese get a bronze and the American settles for nothing. Béla Károlyi, a Romanian, called this "a complete ripoff" and the worst scoring error he has "ever seen". | |

| Chad Johnson Could Out-Swim Michael Phelps
Friday August 15, 2008 If there's one thing Cincinnati Bengals receiver Chad Johnson has never been accused of it's being short on confidence or being afraid of the spotlight.
Okay, that's two things, but I think you know where I'm going with this.
On Wednesday, Johnson happily displayed that confidence stating on ESPN’s Pardon the Interruption that he could beat Olympic swimming star Michael Phelps. You know, the Michael Phelps who has been winning gold medals and setting records on a nightly basis here recently?
“The problem with Michael Phelps is there’s no competition where he is,” Johnson said. “Now if he came to where I’m from, which is the inner city, Liberty City [in Miami], I was the three-time Charles Hadley Pool champ. . . . I know a couple people who could beat Michael Phelps right now. Seriously, I’m telling you. And I’m one of them.”
Yes, you read that right. Ocho Cinco, who never met a camera he didn't like, has swimming buddies that are faster than the record-setting, gold medal-hording Phelps. That's why they're competing for the Charles Hadley Pool championships while Phelps is off at this little even called the Olympics.
And Johnson can do it as well. Just ask him. Of course, he's busy with football right now, but perhaps a showdown with Phelps after the season is in order. I've never seen Johnson swim, but I suspect he would be handily defeated. The prospects of being publicly destroyed, however, might not stop him from agreeing to the spectacle.

| Umm..WTF?!
In women's uneven bars a Chinese gymanst gets a 16.725. The American gets a 16.725. So they tie, right? Nope! The Chinese gymnast wins for some reason.
I thought maybe the tie-breaker was what they got in qualifying, but that's not it - the American got a better score in qualifying (15.950 vs. 15.725).
To make this even more screwed up - in every sport but gymnastics (other than stuff like basketball where a tie is impossible) they CAN award more than one medal of the same color. In fact, in boxing, judo, taekwondo and wrestling TWO bronze medals are awarded.

| I'm beginning to think they should get rid of "sports" with judges. Ever single Olympics there's controversy after controversy with these sports.
I mean think of the outrage if after winning by .01 seconds the judges would say "Phelps had poor form, his finish was bad needing half a stroke - that's a 0.1 second deduction, the other guy wins by .09 seconds".

| SPOLER ALERT. Concerning tonight's gymnastics... - Spoiler:
USA takes gold and silver in the balance beam. I'm starting to get really pissed off knowing the results of these events. Why is it that all the news outlets plaster them all over the place. I'm reading baseball stuff online and they stick scores on the page. Go to yahoo! and their top story is Olympic results
