They are the home team, after all!

It's all those stupid sports that they keep winning. I mean who cares about shooting and diving? They're winning so many golds there. Luckily the 2nd half is all stuff like track and field and the US dominates there. Still, their lead is a little bigger than I'd like.

That's probably their strategy....mop up all the lesser-known events.

After a terrible day, here's the medal standings:

1. China - 20 gold, 7 silver, 5 bronze, 32 medals
2. United States - 10 gold, 8 silver, 13 bronze, 31 medals

Nobody else has more than 6 golds or 16 medals.

10 golds behind and we have less total medals, too. How embarrassing Gymnastics and diving can't end soon enough.

In an absolute disaster, the United States women's team sabre fencing team will not win gold despite the fact they swept the medals in the individual event and the same 3 fencers took part in the team event. They must now defeat the #2 seed France to win bronze. To make matters worse the Chinese are in the finals and will win at least a silver.

USA wins bronze in women's team sabre and China ends up with silver. Still a disaster.

In other news, James Blake (USA) beats #1 seed Roger Federer in straight sets in what is probably a huge upset. He is off to the semifinals It's his first-ever win over Federer.

USA men's basketball beats Greece by 23 points. That's not very much

USA beats the Netherlands 7-0 in baseball. The Dutch managed 1 hit.

I don't know what's up with Federer. He's just not himself at the moment.

There is quite the to-do being made over Phelps' diet. The guy wolfs down 12,000 kcals a day! 3 fried egg sandwiches for breakfast...and that's just an appetizer!

The US needs all the medals it can get though. Both Williams sisters are out of the singles tourney. I can go back to hating them. Oh wait - they're still alive in doubles along with another US team. Hopefully the Williams sisters get silver and the other US team gets gold.

Yeah USA!!! Serves that little 14 year old right.

Medal Standings:

1. United States - 14 gold, 12 silver, 17 bronze, 43 total
2. China - 22 gold, 8 silver, 6 bronze, 36 total.
3. Who cares?

We have more golds than China has bronze and silver combined. I guess if you don't win in China you don't medal. The US has 5 more silvers and 9 more bronzes than anyone else.

USA takes an early 1-0 lead on Canada in the quarterfinals of women's soccer.

The game is live on USA but as it's schedules to go until about 5 AM I won't watch all of it.

Canada's goalie is hurt so they make a substitution just shy of 19 minutes in.

Rain delay. I have no idea how this works in soccer. The game isn't "official" if soccer has such a thing. If the delay goes long enough I don't know if they start over at 0-0 or what happens.

Yeah, and if all those female gymnasts on the Chinese team are over age 16, I have a hot date with Magglio tonight!

It's over. USA wins 2-1 after extra time. That's a little tougher than I'd have liked, but a win is a win.
