2007 SEASON

Established career highs with 57 appearances, 79.2 innings pitched and 62 strikeouts with the Tigers.

• Fourth among all American League relievers with 79.2 innings pitched, while he tied for ninth with five wins.

• Posted a 7.59 ERA (21.1IP/18ER) in his first 16 outings of the season, before compiling a 3.70 ERA (58.1IP/24ER) over his final 41 outings.

• Equaled a career best with four innings of relief on June 5 at Texas -- fanned a season-high five batters in the outing.

• Established a career high with a three-game winning streak July 7-25.

MAJOR LEAGUE CAREER

Worked solely in relief for the first time in his career as he spent his first full season at the major league level with the Tigers in 2006.

• Established a career high with four innings of relief on April 17 versus Cleveland.

• Compiled a 1.54 ERA (11.2IP/2ER) in 12 outings April 26-May 30 -- posted a 1.86 ERA (9.2IP/2ER) in 10 appearances during May.

• Fanned a season-high five batters in 2.1 innings of relief against the Chicago White Sox on July 18.

• Posted a 2-1 record and 1.62 ERA (16.2IP/3ER) over a 15-appearance stretch August 1-September 8 -- recorded a 1.46 ERA (12.1IP/2ER) in 11 games during August.

• Limited righthanded opposition to a .249 batting average (42x169)...lefties hit .292 (19x65) with Grilli on the mound.

Joined the Tigers after having his contract purchased from Triple A Toledo on September 16, 2005.

• Made his Tigers debut on September 19 at Kansas City, allowing one run on four hits in two innings -- his debut came 30 years to the day after his father, Steve Grilli, made his major league debut with the Tigers on September 19, 1975 versus Boston.

• Made his first start of the season with the Tigers on September 24 versus Seattle, limiting the Mariners to one run on two hits over seven innings to earn the victory.

Recalled by the Chicago White Sox from Triple A Charlotte on August 27, 2004.

• Posted wins in back-to-back starts September 6 at Texas and September 11 at Anaheim.

• Tossed the first complete game of his career September 27 at Detroit, equaling a career high with six strikeouts in the loss.

Made the Florida Marlins Opening Day roster in 2001, the first time in his career accomplishing the feat.

• Fanned a career-high six batters in a win at Montreal on April 15 -- belted a solo home run in the game.

• Won consecutive starts over Montreal, April 15 and 20.

• Optioned to Triple A Calgary on May 5.

• Recalled from Triple A by the Marlins on September 4 -- made one relief appearance, September 7 versus the New York Mets, before being sidelined for the remainder of the season with a bulging disc in his upper back.

Had his contract purchased by the Marlins from Calgary on May 11, 2000.

• Made his major league debut on May 11 versus Atlanta, earning his first major league win after allowing four runs on 11 hits in 6.2 innings -- singled and drove in a run off Kevin Millwood in the fourth inning for his first major league hit.

• Optioned back to Calgary following his start.

MINOR LEAGUE HIGHLIGHTS

Spent the majority of the 2005 season with Toledo.

• Led the International League with three complete games, while he tied for the league lead with 28 games started and two shutouts...finished second with 167.1 innings pitched and tied for fifth with 21 home runs allowed.

• Struggled over his first three starts of the season with Toledo, posting a 0-2 record and 6.39 ERA (12.2IP/9ER).

• Rebounded to post a 3-1 record and 2.03 ERA (40.0IP/9ER) in his next six starts April 30-May 27.

• Named the International League Pitcher of the Week for May 23-29 after tossing a shutout at Columbus on May 27.

• Won four straight decisions June 17-July 8, tossing two complete games and recording a 1.30 ERA (34.2IP/5ER) over the five-start stretch.

• Recorded victories in three consecutive starts July 30-August 11, posting a 0.83 ERA (21.2IP/2ER).

• Fanned a season-high 12 batters during his final start of the regular season, a no-decision versus Indianapolis on September 5.

• Allowed two runs on five hits while striking out six in 7.2 innings to earn the victory in the third and final game of the International League championship series at Indianapolis on September 15.

• Posted a 1-0 record and 1.23 ERA (14.2IP/2ER) in two starts during the International League playoffs.

Spent the majority of his first season in the White Sox organization at Charlotte in 2004.

• Eighth in the International League with 152.2 innings pitched...fourth in the league with 58 walks and seventh with 22 home runs allowed.

• Tied for fifth in the league with two complete games -- June 1 versus Richmond and August 22 versus Norfolk in the second game of a doubleheader...tied for third in the league with one shutout, a three-hitter on June 1 against Richmond.

• Tabbed the International League Pitcher of the Week for June 1-6...in two starts during the week, he was 1-0 with a 1.38 ERA (13.0IP/2ER).

Finished 10-4 with a 3.06 ERA (109.1IP/37ER) in 19 starts between Triple A Albuquerque and Single A Jupiter in 2003 ...tied for fifth among Marlins minor leaguers with 10 wins, while he was seventh with a 3.06 ERA.

• Opened the season on the disabled list at Albuquerque with a right elbow strain...reinstated from the disabled list and transferred to Jupiter on May 27.

• Posted a 4-1 record and 1.67 ERA (37.2IP/7ER) in six starts during June for Jupiter.

• Transferred back to Albuquerque on July 2.

• Recorded a six-game winning streak July 20-August 30, posting a 3.02 ERA (50.2IP/17ER) over the nine-start stretch.

• Made one start for Albuquerque during the Pacific Coast League playoffs, allowing six runs in four innings for a no-decision.

Forced to the disabled list for the remainder of the season after one start with Calgary in 2002.

• Placed on the disabled list on April 8 with a right elbow strain...underwent “Tommy John” ligament replacement in his right elbow.

Joined Calgary’s starting rotation after being optioned to Triple A by the Marlins on May 5, 2001.

• Landed on the disabled list after two starts on May 17 with a strained flexor mass in his right forearm.

• Joined the Gulf Coast League Marlins for two outings as part of a rehab assignment...reinstated from the disabled list on July 18 and transferred to Brevard County.

• Returned to Calgary on August 6 after he started three games with Brevard County and one game with Double A Portland.

• Named the 25th-best prospect in the Marlins organization following the season by Baseball America.

Limited by injury to eight starts with Calgary during the 2000 season.

• Landed on the disabled list on May 23 for the remainder of the season with a right elbow strain.

• Underwent surgery to remove a bone spur with associated hairline fracture in the elbow on August 15, a procedure performed by Dr. James Andrews.

• Named the 20th-best prospect in the Marlins organization following the season by Baseball America.

Began the 1999 season with Triple A Fresno in the San Francisco Giants organization, before being dealt to the Marlins in a three-player deal on July 24...assigned to Calgary by the Marlins following his acquisition.

• Second in the Pacific Coast League with 117 runs allowed between Fresno and Calgary, while he was third with 29 home runs allowed and fourth with 27 games started and 97 earned runs allowed.

• Participated in the Futures Game prior to Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game at Fenway Park on July 11 -- retired both batters he faced for the United States squad.

• Named 44th-best prospect in baseball prior to the season by Baseball America.

Split his first professional season between Double A Shreveport and Fresno in 1998.

He and his wife Danielle reside in Orlando, FL during the off-season.

• His father, Steve, pitched in 70 games at the major league level with the Tigers (1975-77) and Toronto Blue Jays (1979).

• Selected in the 24th round of the June 1994 draft by the New York Yankees out of Baker High School in Baldwinsville, NY, but he did not sign.

• Tabbed the Big East Conference’s Rookie of the Year following his freshman season at Seton Hall University in 1995 -- posted an 8-2 record and 1.85 ERA in 14 games...led the conference with his 1.85 ERA...selected to Baseball America’s Freshman All-American squad.

• During his sophomore season at Seton Hall University in 1996, he finished 5-5 with a 4.25 ERA in 13 games.

• An All-Big East Conference selection following his junior season at Seton Hall University in 1997 -- compiled a 6-4 record and 4.65 ERA in 16 games...topped the conference with 125 strikeouts.

• Established a Big East Conference record with 18 strikeouts in a win over the University of Connecticut on April 26, 1997.

• Finished 2-5 with a 2.41 ERA in 11 outings for Honolulu in the Hawaii Winter Baseball League following the 1997 season.

• Started nine games for Scottsdale in the Arizona Fall League following the 1999 season, going 2-3 with a 4.63 ERA.
