Miggy ties LCS mark for streak to open career
First Game 6 homer gives Cabrera a hit in 13 straight games
By Bryan Hoch / MLB.com | 10/15/11 11:51 PM ET

ARLINGTON -- Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera homered in the first inning of Game 6 of the American League Championship Series on Saturday, tying the all-time record for an LCS hitting streak to open a career.

Cabrera's opposite-field homer off Rangers left-hander Derek Holland in the Tigers' 15-5 season-ending loss marked the slugger's 13th straight LCS game with a hit, dating to the 2003 NL Championship Series with the Florida Marlins against the Chicago Cubs.

The slugger, who won his first batting title this season with a .344 average, also belted an eighth-inning homer off right-hander Mike Adams.

Cabrera shares the all-time record with Greg Luzinski. An outfielder and designated hitter who played from 1970 through 1984, Luzinski hit safely in 13 career LCS games beginning with the 1976 NLCS, when he was playing for the Philadelphia Phillies against the Cincinnati Reds.

Cabrera entered play on Saturday batting .290 (9-for-31) with two homers and eight RBIs this postseason. In the previous five ALCS games against the Rangers, Cabrera was batting .375 (6-for-16) with one homer and five RBIs.
