Flight from Nashville, TN to San Jose, CA is $153. My dad said he'll pick me up in San Jose so now I need a ride to Nashville - it's 75ish miles from here.

Sad thing is that the Downriver Area [ where I live; including Trashy Park]
has many familes whose relatives migrated from Kentucky and Tennessee during the 1920's-1960s

Sure glad I grew up in Garden City. We had Polish, Irish, ect, but the people were not southern immigrants. It was a great place to live.

Day 10 Observations:

Didn't leave "town" today. Everyone went to the grocery store but I didn't as I prefer not to be in public in places like this. Internet is really not doing so good today. I have to sit right up against the window in the kitchen to pick up the signal. If I move even slightly I lose the connection. I could probably do better outside, but it's way too hot/humid.

At some point (probably soon), we have to go back to the place we stayed last night which will mean no more internet until who knows when (tomorrow hopefully if we come back here).

Would a rental car be available to Nashville?

I am 22. For some very strange reason you have to be 25 to rent a car

(some companies allow 21+ year olds to do it provided they pay extra).

Regardless, it doesn't matter. This "town" certainly does not have a car rental place.

Observations:

What should have been a 3 hour drive took almost 6 hours thanks to some sort of accident on the freeway. Apparently nobody got hurt or anything but a semitruck did something blocking a lane where a lane was closing bringing traffic to a complete halt for several hours. If I was about 12 feet further up I could have turned around and taken some rural highway to Nashville (we were 20 miles or so outside of Nashville) but there was a guard rail in the way so I couldn't get to the turnaround thing.

It doesn't really matter though. Hotel says it has free internet but it doesn't work. There's a free computer in the lobby I can use but I don't want to sit here all night.

We're supposed to be at Fort Knox, KY for an event at 10:00 AM tomorrow and for some reason we are leaving here at 7:30 AM (it's a 30 minute drive or so) My sister wants to get up at 5:00 AM so she can get ready so I'm sure I'll have to get up at the same time

In all seriousness, I'm about ready to kill myself (not really, don't report me to a suicide prevention center) if I have to be here much longer. It's bad enough I'm in these Southern states, but I have to be in these ridiculously small towns, too. I think Elizabethtown is halfway big, but Hohenwald was the county seat of a county of 5,000 people. There were Confederate Flags everywhere. You lost the war, get over it. The South shall not rise again - if it tried it'd be even more soundly defeated than last time.

Apparently Southerners don't take kind to non-whites either. I've been in several public restrooms and seen tons of anti-every minority group out there graffitied all over the walls.

Oh yeah, we're staying in a dry country so it's about a 9 mile drive if you want beer. I drove by a billboard in Tennessee advertising a liquor store 90 miles away that sold beer on Sundays. Gee, what a concept!

My mom is talking about stopping in Las Vegas on the way home for a night. I sure as hell don't want to do that. I like Vegas as much as anyone, but if I'm in Vegas I'm 6 hours from home. At best we'd get there at about 8 PM so it's not like we'd have much time to do much of anything. Why not drive all the way through? Besides, my sister isn't 21 so what fun would that be. Her boyfriend is and hasn't been to Vegas, but he probably wants to get home since he hasn't been home in 4 months and only gets 10 days off.

Day 13 Observations:

Went to my sister's boyfriend's army boot camp graduation today. Wandering around the base and listening to him talk about his experiences and looking at pictures and videos was absolutely horrible. Everything about the entire day made me feel sick.

Went to Louisville that night to see one of the army buddies for a few hours which was a huge hassle since Louisville is 50 miles from here and we didn't leave until 9 PM.

Michigan part was cool. Rest wasn't. Southern part was tolerable but the military part really ruined the trip. It was the most disgusting thing I've ever seen in my life.
