| Day 6 Observations: Went to my first Tigers (or any MI team) home game. They lost Stadium was okay but I hate to admit it wasn't my favorite. Fans appeared to arrive on time and stay the whole game compared to the CA stadiums. Very few Seattle fans whereas in all CA/AZ stadiums you see a lot of visiting fans regardless of who is playing. Must be because so many people move to those states. I met gs78 before the game. I went to Cheli's Chili Bar after the game. Food was nothing special but if you like to party during/after a game it's probably a good place to go. Food was really cheap, too which I was surprised by. Some cool memorabilia in there but not a lot. I'd like to go to Hockeytown Cafe next time to see if it is better. | |

| For sure I'm going to hockeytown next time I'm in Detroit. I want to try Nemo's, too. Next time I go to Detroit I'm going to Canada...preferably Toronto not just Windsor. I was going to go today but I decided I'd rather go to the game with my uncle than go by myself and then go to Windsor.
Tomorrow I'm going to Fenton to visit some different family and on Saturday I'm going to Ann Arbor.

If you go to an Indians or White Sox game, you'll see a lot of their fans. The main reason that you didn't see a lot of Mariners fans was probably due to how far away they are.

That is true; However; when Ichiro first hit the majors; there used to be quite a few Japanese/ Asian fans at Comerica wearing Ichiro jerseys or T shirts; You don't really see that anymore There was a Japanese/ Asian guy sitting next to me the other night; but he was wearing a Tigers cap and he booed Ichiro

I don't think it's just the distance. If I go to a Dodgers-Marlins game I see a decent number of Marlins fans (not too many as they have few fans). A Dodgers-Brewers game has quite a few Brewers fans. I don't think I saw even 10 Mariners fans at the game.

| Day 7:
Didn't go very far. Went to Flint and Fenton which are near each other so I'm not going to bother looking up how far I traveled. I went to some store in Flint called The Great Divide which sells a bunch of Michigan and Michigan State stuff.
I went to Fenton and saw the liquor store (now called the Hayloft...I think) my grandfather used to own on Loon (sp?) Lake. I also saw the mobile home park he used to own and my mom's childhood home, also on the lake. I've seen all this before so it was nothing new.
Went to a different cousin of mine's house in Fenton for a while. Nothing terribly exciting happened there.
Going to Ann Arbor tomorrow.

| Day 8 Observations:
Went to Ann Arbor. What a cool college town that is. Doesn't have the huge city feel like Los Angeles, but it's big enough (114,000) such that it's like a small city. Spent most of the time at the UM campus. Campus is also pretty neat - much cooler than UCLA (older, too!). Campus didn't take up a whole lot of room which was surprising as campuses tend to be rather large unless they're in places like LA where real estate gets too expensive.
All the athletic venues are within walking distance of campus which is also very cool - very few of UCLA's venues are within walking distance (unless you like walking 30ish miles to see a football game).

| You need to check our East Lansing and see MSU. Their campus is in one section, unlike U or M. It has some really great old buildings. The pic below shows the main campus. Tho only other area not shown are the fields used for agriculture. It also has a great smaller town feel. View Larger Map | |

I'm surprised how few Confederate flags I've seen....still seen plenty though I'm disappointed that my mom's dead brother's ex-wife (the person I'm staying with) has a heavy Southern accent despite being born and raised in Michigan until she was like 30 (she's under 40 now)
