My mom doesn't. She lived in Fenton which is about an hour from Detroit. How far are you from Detroit (my Michigan geography could be better...I'm not an expert on the location of Muskegon). Her family all pronounces it correctly and some of them are pretty old (even older than you...a lot older!)
