| The 2007 Gold Gloves have been given out: National League Greg Maddux (P) That's 17! New record! Russell Martin (C) Derrek Lee (1B) Orlando Hudson (2B) Jimmy Rollins (SS) David Wright (3B) Jeff Francoeur (OF) Andruw Jones (OF) Carlos Beltran (OF) Aaron Rowand (OF) American League Johan Santana (P) Ivan Rodriguez (C) Kevin Youkilis (1B) Placido Polanco (2B) Orlando Cabera (SS) Adrian Beltra (3B) Ichiro Suzuki (OF) Torii Hunter (OF) Grady Sizemore (OF) ------------------------------------ The voters never cease to amaze me. How the hell does Ivan Rodriguez win a gold glove? How the hell does Jimmy Rollins win the gold glove over Tulowitzki (or Vizquel if they want to give it to him just because)? Granderson deservered a gold glove but that won't happen either. Some say the gold glove is tied to offense - Granderson had a better year offensively than Sizemore and Hunter and arguably Ichiro as well. He was one of the top 3 defensive OFers, too. | |

17 gold gloves, 4 cy youngs. I hope that trophy case is huge! He's never won a silver slugger though which is too bad. He's never had a great season offensively, but he's one of the greatest hitting pitchers in the game. He's pretty consistent but never great. Michah Owings had an outstanding year this year, but he won't keep that up.

OVERRATED!! GRANDERSON ROBBED AT GUNPOINT!! At least Jeter didn't win. What I don't get is when I say the Gold Gloves are terrible judges of defense people say "well offense counts even though it shouldn't" If that's the case why the didn't Granderson win?!?!?! His defense was better looking at the sabermetric numbers. BUT, offense counts even though it shouldn't....Granderson had a better season, too! What the is wrong with the voters. That's not even the worst! How the did Rollins win? Shouldn't the BEST defender in baseball regardless of his position (Tulowitzki) win...especially if his team won the pennant?!?!

WORTHLESS!!!!! cannot think of a worse year for the Gold Glove off the top of my head. Oh my lord. Lee? Over Pujols? That's just insane. I would be less shocked by Helton, but Derrek Lee? Pudge? Still? Jimmy Rollins? Where did that come from? I'm amazed Vizquel didn't win it considering how lazy the voters are. Torii Hunter's reputation continues to trump actual evidence. Oh well, that's less egregious than some of the other stuff. This award is absurd. The managers must just be taking it less and less seriously. The Rollins vote really dumbfounds me. The rest of my disagreements, I can understand the reasoning, no matter how crazy. But I can't do that with Rollins.

| AL Gold Gloves show changing of guard
"Rodriguez and Polanco give the Tigers two winners for the second straight season. Rodriguez, who won 10 of his 13 Gold Gloves from 1992-2001, allowed just 47 stolen bases this past season and finished with a .993 fielding percentage. Polanco made no errors in 683 total chances at second base, where he helped turn 101 double plays for Detroit."
I, for one, am glad Ivan was honored with a GG, I agree Granderson did great, but his fielding % was .989 which is tied for 11th in center fielders. Ordonez had a Fielding % of .996 with only Ichiro Suzuki, (Sea), and Coco Crisp, (Bos) having a better ave at .998. Grady Sizemore, (Cle) and Torii Hunter, (Min) had more innings than Crisp, beating him and Ordonez out. That's the stuff that hurt Ordonez.
stats for catchers with lowest amt of stolen bases allowed: Only Johjima caught more innings, allowed one less stolen bases, but put out 29 less players. It was a close call for catchers, but Ivan showed he still is one of the best catchers.

I mean there is no way Ordonez should even be considered for the award despite the fielding %. I am more concerned with stuff like RF9 and ZR (along with more complicated sabermetric tools, but we'll avoid those). ESPN doesn't offer all OFer stats grouped together, but CFers generally win the award anyways, so I'll focus on those stats (* denotes GG winner). Range Factor leaders: 1. Crisp - 3.07 2. Granderson - 3.04 3. Cabrera - 3.02 4. Ichiro - 2.90* 5. Matthews - 2.90 6. DeJesus - 2.70 7. Hunter - 2.68* 8. Sizemore - 2.57* Interpretation: Granderson gets to about 1 more ball every 2 games than Sizemore. For comparison, Ordonez had a score of 1.95 - only 2 RFers were worse. ZR: 1. Sizemore - .916* 2. Wells - .911 3. Crisp - .911 4. Granderson - .908 5. Cabrera - .903 6. Hunter - .894* 7. DeJesus - .889 8. Patterson - .885 9. Ichiro - .867* ZR is basically what percentage of balls hit into their "zone" do the players get to. RFers will have higher numbers because their zones are smaller. Anyways, based on all that, my Gold Gloves go to (from most deserving to third most deserving) 1. Crisp 2. Granderson 3. Cabrera It looks like the voters were 0-3 in the AL OF!

| Makes sense to me cat! But they have their own system and it causes many players to miss out.
Lets see them diss Granderson next year! Grandy is playing in a park with one of the biggest center fields for a player to cover. I'm sure that also hurts his chances since they do not look at the field the player plays the most.

| I don't think the voters look at anything. The voters (managers) look at who they voted for last year. If that player is still playing in the same league they vote for him unless he missed the whole year due to injury. Hopefully an NL team signs Hunter - that'll help Grandreson's chances (assuming Andruw Jones stays in the NL, too). | |
