| We have our first overtime game of the playoffs...
In Chicago it's 2-2 after 3 periods between the Blackhawks and Flames.
12 seconds later it's over, Chicago wins.
That was boring. I wanted lots of overtimes. Oh well.

12 seconds?
Damn! It was kind of cool as the fans were really excited but it sort of sucked, too - it's been 2 days of playoffs and the longest game of the year still is a whole shitload of regular season games.

| Saturday, April 18, 2009 Notebook Blue Jackets coach: Red Wings cheat on faceoffs Ted Kulfan and Dave Dye / The Detroit News
Detroit -- It's only Game 2 of the first round, but Ken Hitchcock already has thrown down the gauntlet.
The Red Wings cheat.
Hitchcock came to this conclusion while reviewing Game 1.
The Wings won the faceoff battle 32-24, including 16-5 in the second period when they turned the game around.
So, how do they cheat?
Hitchcock explained it in drag racing terms.
"They would never pass the Christmas tree test," the Blue Jackets coach said. "They would be red-lighted every time because their wingers cheat.
"So we're going to cheat like they are."
The power-play goal Niklas Kronwall scored in the second period, which gave the Wings a 3-1 lead, is a perfect example, the Blue Jackets coach added.
"Their winger went in (toward the puck) on the move, good for him," Hitchcock said. "We'll do the same thing. It'll be interesting to see who gets kicked out first."
By the way, Red Wings coach Mike Babcock isn't biting.
"I know the rules, Hitch knows the rules and the refs know the rules," Babcock said. "Let the games go on."
Nash unit
The Red Wings did an impressive job containing Rick Nash (no points, four shots, minus-1) in Game 1.
With Babcock getting the final line change at home, he has tried to match the lines of Nicklas Lidstrom and Henrik Zetterberg against Nash as often as possible.
"They really smothered him," said Danny Gare, a television analyst for the Blue Jackets. "When he had opportunities down low, there were always two defenders against him.
"When he did get the puck, they didn't give him much room to skate with it."
Much of the credit goes to Lidstrom, who frequently used stick checks to disrupt Nash.
"His positioning and stick is just the best," defenseman Dan Cleary said of Lidstrom.
Ice chips
Wings center Kris Draper (upper body) continues to practice and participate in warm-ups, but isn't expected to play tonight.
... Hitchcock hinted at personnel changes, but wouldn't divulge what he was planning tonight.
... Columbus has struggled with its power play all season, and it was no different in Game 1.
It was 0-for-5, including 0-for-4 in the first period.

| San Jose beats Anaheim in overtime and they stay alive. If they come back Detroit gets Vancouver. If they don't, we get Anaheim. | |
