Yeah...probably best for me though....I'll be getting an MRI done this afternoon. I'd hate to think I had to miss out on the Tigers game because of it!

Open MRI?

Well....I wouldn't exactly call it "open"...but I wasn't completely encased in the machine. Only my lower half was actually in the MRI scanner. My upper torso was sticking out. Monday's was my 4th one....so I'm getting used to 'em LOL

I can't remember in what Ohio city, but there is an"open" MRI where there isn't really a tube...it's completely open on the sides. Man, I can remember working in MRI and patients would come in loaded on Valium and Ativan just to take the damn test!

All our area hospitals have a mobile MRI and they have had the open unit for over 8 years. Only problem is it has a harder time getting an image because of open sides. but the table can be moved from side to side which lets then check your arms whereas the closed unit degrades closer to he sides of the tunnel. ( my own experience educated me to this.) I had a lump in my upper arm that the DR's were concerned about, the closed MRI got a bad image and the tech told me about the side image problems, with the units, and told me to have it redone in an open unit.

Turns out the lump was muscular dealing with my Fibromyalgia and a trip to the hospital's rehab, for massage, fixed it! And to think my Dr's wanted to do exploratory surgery!

Looks like surgery is iminent for me yet again. BEST case senario is its just a torm medial meniscus. I'm waiting on the MRI results to determine if I also tore the MCL or ACL. Thing that sucks about the whole ordeal is that I just had surgery on the same knee in June for a medial meniscus tear!

luckily, it is minimal invasive, otherwise, that sucks!

Oh yeah....if it's just the meniscus, I'll be good as new 6 weeks after surgery. I just it isn't the MCL.

I already have it all planned out, too. I'm going to put off surgery untill the 1st week of June. That way, I will be on a Medical leave of absence from work for 6 weeks, which means I get to save my 2 weeks of vacation time when work shuts down the 1st 2 weeks of July and makes everyone else use their vacation time! I'll return to work after "vacation", and still have all of my time to use before December 1st. That way I can take all of it in October when the Tigers are in the World Series and I won't have to miss a single game!
