Marlins designate OF Jones for assignment Jun 12, 2008

MIAMI (TICKER) —The Florida Marlins designated outfielder Jacque Jones for assignment after their 6-2 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday.

Jones, 33, who signed a minor league contract with Florida on May 19 after being released by Detroit six days earlier, hit just .108 (4-for-37) with two RBI in 18 games for the Marlins.

After the game, Jones said he did not know if he will accept the Marlins’ minor league assignment but believes he will clear waivers. “I knew coming in what the deal was,” said Jones, who was aware he had to perform in order to stay. “This is a good team, a good group of guys. I enjoyed it.”

Overall, Jones batted .147 with a homer and seven RBI in 42 games with the Tigers and Marlins in 2008. The 10-year veteran has a career average of .277 with 165 homers and 630 RBI in 1,302 contests with four different teams.

In a corresponding move, Florida recalled infielder Robert Andino from Class AAA Albuquerque of the Pacific Coast League.

Andino, 24, hit .182 with two home runs and three RBI in 21 games for the Marlins earlier this season.

Poor guy can't play anywhere!

That sucks, too! Cuz he's a heck of an outfielder and was always a threat at the plate and on the basepaths. I hope he gets things worked out and gets to play somewhere.

He sucked worse as fish than he did as a tiger... he was really good in the outfield though.
