Both times he was gifted with some offense, he went out and faltered. There is no excuse for walking them loaded with a two run lead. There has to be someone in Toledo that will challenge hitters. Durbin was challenging them pretty good through five innings. Only 62 pitches. Myself, I can't blame Leyland for trying to get a little more out of him. It's not like his replacement, Grilli, is a definite improvement.
What's done is done, and I'll take a tie game after Durbin and Grilli combine to pitch six innings any day Options Reply

Mackowiak was due up, batting .187. Thome probably thought he had a better that 19% chance of scoring.
I don't think Grili can blame roids. He's always pretty much stunk. Tigers fall behind 5-4. Options Reply

Durbin. Grilli. Seay.
AND WE'RE STILL IN THIS THING!?! Man they (Sox) are struggling offensively. That's something to be happy about.
6 outs to do something, or we'll hafta settle for two outta three in this series... Options Reply

Terrible.
But like I said, Durbin, Grilli and Seay, and the tying run was 90 feet away. The Copa was packed, a sellout in April that wasn't opening day, for the first time since 1963. The fans were chanting for a guy who's hit like a bum since he got here.
It was amazing we were even in it. Tomorrow and Sunday, we send our MAJOR LEAGUE starters out there. I still say we'll take the series.
It was a beautiful night, and it's about as good as a loss to the hated Sox can be. Options Reply

I have him on ignore. He is a child.
This was a good game tonight but the ending was like a horror movie gone bad.
Why didn't Leyland pinch hit Grandy for Infante? He could have put him in CF in the bottom of the 8th. I think Curtis could have nabbed that fly ball and then he wouldn't have led off the 9th with a K. Options Reply

I don't understand why anybody responds to him.
Is it time to bench Sheff?
I'm starting to think that we don't have a chance to win with a 5th starter.
Did you hear Arod hit his 11th and 12th HR tonight?
Why is Grilli not in the Minors? Options Reply

Good topics. My two cents -
"Is it time to bench Sheff?"
I don't think that would help. It may just get him pissed off. Maybe some more PT in the field might help him get into the flow. Hopefully Leyland will be able to get a read on the guy.
"I'm starting to think that we don't have a chance to win with a 5th starter."
I agree. Last year we got 15 wins out of the fifth slot in Minor, Maroth and Ledezma. This year, our AAA (Durbin)is having to start. (I heard him referred to as a "4 A" guy by somebody on the radio.) I would not mind having Ledezma take a start or two and find ways to skip the fifth starter whenever possible.
"Did you hear Arod hit his 11th and 12th HR tonight?"
And they still lost b/c Riveria blew a four or five run lead. Even Rodney thinks that's bad.
"Why is Grilli not in the Minors?"
Becuase we need someone to pitch middle relief other than Seay. I would like to see more of this Lopez dude though. He looked good. Options Reply
