Furbush K's 11 as 'Wolves Down Baysox 8-3
07/06/2010 11:13 PM ET

Recap Box

The SeaWolves, powered by the long ball and a strong performance from Charlie Furbush, won their second consecutive game on Tuesday night at Jerry Uht Park, 8-3 over the Bowie Baysox.

The Howlers broke a scoreless game in the bottom of the fourth against Bowie starter Ryohei Tanaka. With one out, Justin Henry tripled to the gap in right-center. Andy Dirks followed with a single to center, scoring Henry for a 1-0 lead. Rawley Bishop followed with a bloop single to center putting two on for Michael Bertram. Bertram doubled down the right field line, brining home Dirks for a 2-0 lead. A walk to Kody Kaiser loaded the bases for Deik Scram. Scram clubbed a grand slam over the wall in right, giving the 'Wolves a 6-0 lead. Scram has homered in consecutive games and it was Erie's fifth grand slam of the season. Erie capped off a seven-run inning with a solo home run by Bryan Pounds, his first.

The seven runs would be plenty for the Erie starter Furbush. At one point, he struck out six consecutive hitters en route to an Erie single-game high for punchouts with 11. Both Andy Oliver and Duane Below struck out 10 hitters earlier this season.

The Baysox plated two runs against Furbush in the seventh with two when Brandon Waring doubled off the wall in right and Caleb Joseph connected on a two-run home run to left.

Erie would go back ahead by six at 8-2 when Pounds homered for the second time in the game against reliever Eddie Gamboa.

Bowie would threaten in the eighth against reliever Anthony Shawler and they would plate a run before the Erie righty got out of a bases loaded jam. Shawler worked a perfect ninth preserving the win.

Furbush faced just one over the minimum through five and would go seven, allowing two runs on four hits with two walks and 11 strikeouts. He earned his first Double-A win.

Erie will look for a series win on Wednesday night at Jerry Uht Park against the Baysox...7:05 First Pitch.
