By HANK KURZ Jr. AP Sports Writer
Michael Vick is back in the NFL, landing a job with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Vick’s agent, Joel Segal, confirmed Thursday that the sides had a deal.
Vick has not played in the NFL since 2006. The former Atlanta Falcons star was convicted in August 2007 of conspiracy and running a dogfighting operation, and was sentenced to 23 months in federal prison. He also was suspended indefinitely by the NFL.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell conditionally lifted Vick’s suspension on July 27, allowing him to sign with a team.

I guess the Eagles won't be having a bring your dog to the game promotion like some baseball teams do.
Poor dogs
Speaking of dogs, I want a greyhound. I realized the other day they're way cool. Even though they run super fast they're super lazy!
Here's a greyhound:
Vick could kill that dog pretty easily I'm sure

Yeah, that one is cool, too. I like the non-grey ones more although any kind would work. We already have 2 dogs and 8! cats so we don't need anymore animals for a while.

He deserves a second chance like everybody else, its a good move by the Eagles. It gives them another offensive weapon. I've always liked Vick but lost respect when the dogfighting allegations came out.

They're afraid of the dogs. They live in the front yard. Won't come in the backyard since the dogs go back there.
They're all fixed though so we aren't breeding more cats nobody wants. Our neighbor has 9 cats, all of which were strays. We live practically downtown so we aren't in some rural area either.

Back to greyhounds. I was reading today that an estimated 12,000-20,000 greyhounds are killed each year in the United States when their racing career is over. This is normally at age 2-5. Greyhounds should live to be 10-12.

Most of the greyhound tracks I know of, including our local one, have greyhound rescue leagues that organize adoptions of the dogs. Most are saved here. They are a great dog, you just need a big enough yard, WITH A HIGH FENCE, so they can get the running exercise they require.

Glad to hear that about your local racetracks (I'm assuming in WV as greyhound racing is illegal in Ohio). One comment about the above portion of your post. From my (brief) reading on greyhounds they don't actually require a big yard. They like 30 minutes or so of running or walking per day but other than that any sort of enclosed area is good enough. Supposedly they're more suitable for apartment living than most small dogs. They may be capable of running quite fast but they are also very lazy.
A 6 foot fence should be tall enough to keep most greyhounds in. I wouldn't have any dog unless I had a high fence just to play it safe. I think our fence is like 8 feet. No way a dog is jumping over that (tunneling under it is a different story however).
---------
You can adopt a greyhound that's only a couple years old for very cheap. Those dogs would be housebroken and have all their shots and stuff, too. Plus you know if you're adopting a former race dog it runs fast...even for a greyhound.

A six foot to 8 foot is what they mention here.
You can not have small to med dogs or cats either since this breed is a sight hound that is going to chase and bite and/or may kill small things. Each greyhound has to be tested to see if smaller kids are okay around the race dogs.
I agree with the humane society, greyhound racing should be outlawed. Thousands of puppies and dogs are killed if not deemed good for racing. Plus they use rabbits to train the dogs, at many breeders, and they allow the dogs to chase the rabbits until they catch them and allow the dogs to kill them "so they get the taste of blood." Problem is, this breed is a sight hound, not a blood hound. The dogs just want to chase things. The humane society goes after this type of breeder because this practice DOES NOT make them better racers. SEE Greyhound Racing Facts

Massachusetts passed an initiative last election to ban dog racing starting 1/1/2010. That means only 11 states will continue to race dogs (although it is legal in several others that do not conduct dog racing).
I also agree that it should be banned. I don't mind amateur dog racing though. If you have a greyhound as a pet I don't mind if you want to take it to a track and see how fast it runs. People do this and it's just for fun. If the dog comes in last who cares? They weren't going to make money anyways.
-----
If you get a greyhound as a puppy you can have small dogs and cats. You have to be very careful if you're adopting one and want small dogs or cats. One place I was reading says adoption agencies can help you find one that is more likely to get along with smaller animals. They recommend a muzzle at least at first.

Adopt a greyhound. They're medium-sized (if you're very generous with that definition :haha: .....there are larger dogs than greyhounds).
You can't ever let them off a leash if they aren't in a fenced in area as they might chase something and you'll never catch it.
If you want an actual medium-sized dog get a boxer. We've had plenty and they're good dogs. Humphrey Bogart had a boxer...if they're good enough for him they're good enough for anyone.

We also have a rat terrier. He's a cool dog but deathly afraid of my sister's (ex?)boyfriend.
Rat terriers don't do well when hit by cars; however. We had one killed a few years back when some people came to visit us when nobody was home. They forgot to shut the front door when the left and all our dogs got out killing one.
We had a sheltie a very long time ago but nobody ever liked it. We were its third owner and supposedly the first two abused it pretty bad. That's probably part of the reason it wasn't a very friendly dog.
