Some guy in Mount Pleasant, MI is quite clever. He took two rolls of "dimes" and put 48 pennies between the two dimes on the outside and turned them in for money at the bank. The teller didn't pay enough attention to notice and gave the guy $10 for $1.36 worth of change.

Police have released his photo to the newspaper (but won't print it online). If you know who he is call 911.

Really? Call 911 because a guy ripped off $8.64 from the bank? I thought 911 was for emergencies. What kind of idiot teller wouldn't notice this? Pennies and dimes aren't the same size.

Must have glued the dimes to the ends??? Otherwise they will not stay in a penny roll due to size difference.... Plus normally a roll of coins has the denomination written on it...

I guess it has been done before...

Restaurant employee falls for teen's sneaky coin trick

Thursday, February 05, 2009
The News Sun

BEREA PETTY THEFT:A teen asked an employee at KFC to make
change for two rolls of dimes Jan. 18, and the employee gave
the teen two $5 bills. The employee then asked the teen to
write her name and phone number on the rolls, but the pen
didn't work.

A week later, the employee counted the money and opened the
two rolls of dimes. She found dimes on each end of the rolls
and pennies in between, totaling $1.40.

The employee told police she didn't bother counting
the money right away because she was too trusting and
didn't think anything would be wrong with the coins.

Rolls of pennies passed off as dimes near Mount Pleasant

MOUNT PLEASANT -- Police are asking the public to drop the dime on a
man who has turned in 10 rolls of what he said were dimes -- but were
pennies inside dime wrappers.

In each instance, a dime was at each end of the roll, but inside were pennies...

Where I worked this happened once....

A guy did it with a roll of golden dollars ($25) and put quarters in the middle. My boss had a strict "do not insult the customer" policy and forbid us to count rolls of change customers gave us. That policy changed after that.
