My 1st western.

James Stewart, Janet Leigh, Robert Ryan, Ralph Meeker, Millard Mitchell.

This is one of 5 westerns starring James Stawart under director Anthony Mann. This is the middle one with the 1st two being Winchester '73 and Bend of the River and the latter being The Far Country and The Man from Laramie.

James Stewart's character is hunting down a wanted man to collect the reward money. On his way he meets two men and they capture him. Most of the movie shows the 5 people on their way back. No one can trust anyone, the wanted man, Ben and his girl, try to break free while the other men don't need each other so they can collect more of the reward. Not to give away the ending, I was shocked and wasn't expecting it to end that way.

All I have to say is, if all westerns are like this then I think I'm a fan. Or I might just be a fan of James Stewart because everything that I've seen him in I've liked. I now want to see the other 4 films with James Stewart and Anthony Mann. Great movie!

90/100

That's in the database. It makes the top 100 and The Happening drops out with an average of 17.5 based on 2 reviews.

I'm yet to see a James Stewart western but my recommendation would be The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance which also stars John Wayne.
