Bye Matt...hello Clete!!

Tigers send Matt Joyce to Toledo and recall Clete Thomas to take his spot

After Wednesday's game, the Tigers sent outfielder Matt Joyce back to Triple-A Toledo and recalled outfielder Clete Thomas, who began the year with the big-league club in place of the injured Curtis Granderson.

Joyce has lost his left-field job to Marcus Thames, and Jim Leyland said that Thomas would get to play every day at Toledo and work on hitting changeups and breaking balls.

Thomas won’t play as much as Joyce had been, but Leyland said he will look for ways to use him because he likes his energy. One way is as a late-inning defensive replacement for Thames in left when the Tigers are ahead.

Thomas struggled at Toledo when he went first went down, but he has been hitting better lately. His average there is .242. With the Tigers this season, Thomas is hitting .295.

At last: The Tigers broke their tie at the bottom of the division with Kansas City, which lost its 10th straight after blowing a five-run lead in the ninth to Minnesota (Craig Monroe hit a two-out, three-run homer to tie it). The Tigers are now alone in fourth, a game ahead of the Royals. It’s the first time in more than three weeks the Tigers have been ahead of anyone in the A.L. Central.

I feel bad for Matt, but I do really like the way Clete performs, hes more efficient.

Definitely not. Once the pressure is off, he might start producing again down in Toledo, then he will be back!

Well, we will see him again. Once batting coach Leon Durham gets to look at what is messed up with his batting mechanics, Matt will do well again. He fixed Clete's mechanics -- and he is back!

I just wish Durham was in Detroit working with the guys!

I'm thinking about packing up my stuff and moving to Toledo. 1) They are winning. 2) The guys down there are awesome. and 3) I think I might actually be good luck for the Mud Hens.

they would undoubtedly appreciate it! You could get a job working for the Mud Hens office!

OR, move to Erie, PA:

1. It's not in Ohio
   
2. AA is where the best prospects go before going to MLB (although plenty go to AAA as well)
   
3. It's not in Ohio
   
4. Since these best prospects skip AAA this is the highest MiLB you can see them at
   
5. You can get autographs of soon to be stars
   
6. Jerry Uht Park is ever smaller than Fifth Third Field and there's less fans and it's even easier to interact with the players
   
7. It's not in Ohio
   
8. Did I mention it's not in Ohio?
   

I mean you can't go wrong either way, but I'd go to Erie for the aforementioned reasons.

Well Toledo is only an hour away from my house, so it would be easier to get to. I would love to go to an Erie game though.

Aint if funny that you have the coach that work out all the problems in AAA while the MLB coach cant do a damn thing?

This whole mang/coaching staff needs to hit the road.

Hey, how far are the Whitecaps from you. West Michigan is what, like Grand Rapids or so? That's probably even more fan friendly than AA!

We have one of the top ten zoos and one of the world's finest museums.

I have things to do every weekend...and not all of them have to do with alcohol!

But the alcohol helps! I can't knock Toledo though...I like it better there than Cleveland. I feel somewhat safe in Toledo..not the feeling of getting shot at like I do in Cleveland.
