This is just kind of, well, odd. But, hey, it's the Yankees.

Jason Giambi breaks out a special good-luck charm when he's in a slump: He wears a gold lamé, tiger-striped thong.

"I only put it on when I'm desperate to get out of a big slump," he told portfolio.com.

Well, baseball players are the most superstitious lot this side of Victoria's Secret models, but it makes you wonder a couple things:

• What is this, "Bull Durham" where Nuke LaLoosh wore red panties?

• Does the thong come with a cup?

But we digress: Back to thong night at the ballpark; we haven't even gotten to the even odder part of the story yet.

Being a team guy, Giambi has been quite willing to share his underwear with other slumping Yankees, including Derek Jeter and Johnny Damon.

"All of them wore it and got hits" Giambi said. "The thong works every time."

Ewww! On the other hand -- the thong is tiger-striped? Hmm. Do you think Jim Leyland would consider ... naw.

Let's see....umm....I can't think of any.

Speaking of players, they had some Diamondbacks wives on the field today talking about adopting pets. Some of them would possibly look okay in the type of clothing we're discussing here. Then again, they're married so I wouldn't get that into seeing them in said clothing.

Well in a sense. I mean with people you'll never know (e.g., Dbacks wives) it doesn't really matter, but if I meet someone at a bar whose married, then yes.

Yes. I'm not a fan of adultery. When I find out a hot lady is not married, then there's still a "chance." When I find out that she's married, suddenly she's less hot.

I don't date married women for another reason - if a woman is my age and married I think there's a good chance she has problems. How many 20-21 year olds are married and have a marriage that lasts?

We'll see how you two fare in 20 years.

Describe "a marriage that lasts" please. When I was 20-21 I was married and next month I'll be celebrating my 11th anniversary. Also, what problems exactly would I happen to have?

I knew plenty of people that were married [ in the early 20's] that were more concerned with bar hopping and shaging others than their marriages.

Your husband is a few years older though, right? That probably helps.

I didn't say all people that get married at age 21 have suck marriages (by suck marriages I mean less than 3 years). What I meant was take a person who first marries at 18 and one who first marries at 30 - in general the person at 30 stays married longer. There are exceptions obviously (hell, people get married at like 15 in The South and some last).

My comments weren't directed at anyone in particular.

My pain point is if I meet someone and she is married, my goal is not to have some sort of intimate relationship with her. Like my dad always told me - if you're dating someone cheating on your spouse what makes you think they won't cheat on you?

Like my dad always told me, if you date someone married there's a chance 3 things could happen:
1. The husband kills himself (which sucks because you feel guilty)
2. The husband kills her (which sucks because your girlfriend is no more)
3. The husband kills you (which REALLY sucks!)
