Cougars beware Chicago is dangerous

and there were some tigers loose the last two days in Detroit!

Man if we mixed a cougar and a Tiger we'd have a helluva wildcat

Here is a question to see who is knowledgeable....

In my hometown in Mi. we had two high schools. One had the Panther as the mascot (the original HS), the newer HS had the Tiger. When the size of the town went down, they combined the two High Schools into one and used the original HS building for the combined new HS. So as not to cause problems they decided on a new mascot -- a Cougar.

The question is to tell me the irony of the new mascot chosen. What trick was pulled over the students, without them realizing it???

Cougar's just another word for panther... or vice versa.

Panthers are, I think, melanistic (meaning dark or black) cougars.

You got it!!! They tricked the students with this one! I think it was the correct thing to do concerning the two schools were big rivals, and they were worried about going back to the original High School and having fights because Garden City West was gone and Garden City High School was still there (we just called it GC East High unofficially). They felt if they kept the Panther, the merged tiger students would be mad. Truthfully, I do not know if the school system knew that a Cougar is a Panther... but it worked and I never heard anyone admit the truth!!!

I just found it very funny!

Years later I posted the truth about the cougar/panther on a reunion site. I know, I am a trouble maker... but I JUST HAD TO DO IT... :haha:

Something completely unrelated to this thread: I have to write a research paper on Cougar Mountain Software. It's due at 6:00 tonight. I hope I can finish it!

I love this place. I didn't know a Cougar was considered a Panther but have head them called Pumas before. Eother way I think it was just terrible that the Cougar was shot. Should have been tranquilized and relocated .
Besides there are plenty of police in Chicago just that one Cougar. Not that I'm right but 'm just saying.

They said it tried to attack them and they had to shoot it.
