| I have to write a compare and contrast essay about Detroit and Chicago. I'm going to chicago in a couple weeks, which should make it a bit easier. But I was wondering if anyone could help me out?
I need some examples of how they are alike/the same. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Got the asignment today so, at this point I have...
Detroit has a much cooler baseball team.
^as you can see I need a bit of help...

| Chicago is a world class city whereas Detroit (sadly) is not. Chicago is famous for its pizza and stuff like that. Detroit is famous for its automobile industry. Detroit is a border city (although you don't often hear it referred to that way like you do with Tijuana, Mex) whereas Chicago is not.
Chicago is on a lake, Detroit is on a river.
Umm...an actual Detroiter would be more helpful.

| Thanks.
Most of the people in the class are really mad because they think it's a hard topic (it's really not) and want to write "Detroit sucks and there is lots of crime and Chicago is awesome".... I don't think that is going to work out very well....

| Detroit doesn't suck! Chicago doesn't either though Too bad it wasn't compare and contrast LA and Detroit or LA and Chicago. Then you'd have an easy essay. | |

| Yah. I have a choice of doing Detroit and Chicago, or picking two books. Books sound boring, so even if I have to do a lot of research I'll do the cities. | |

^as you can see I need a bit of help... an interesting way to do it would be how the cities evolved at the start of the Industrial Revolution...or how they were innundated with African Americans at the end of the Civil War.

| Yah. It is due April 29th. I get back from Chicago on the 25th.... so I have to think about it while I'm there. I've been to detroit plenty of times, and know a lot about it..., so I think I have that part covered. | |

| Present a well-rounded comparison and you'll do fine! Teachers like it when you delve into something you've never studied/examined before. | |

| Yah. I'm just thinking about all the possibilities at the moment. This month is soooo busy... this is due at the end of the month. Tigers are back. I have to go have an interview with the priest at my church, as well as having a confirmation retreat!
I don't know how I will get this done with everything else happening.

| It's great that you are going to Chicago to see it for yoursef!!! You could compare the actual size of the cities, population and the ethnic make-up of the population. Transportation, architecture, etc. Industry, what major companies are located in each, are any the same? Tourism, why would someone go to each? They both have festivals in the summer, what kinds? Major landmarks (Ren Cen vs. Sears Tower). Pictures of comparison/contrasting stuff (if they want that). Keep a notebook on you in Chicago so you can jot stuff down that strikes you. So many possibilities. That sounds like a cool project. And oh yeah, they both have crappy winter weather, lol | |

| Both cities have a history of corrupt politics!
We have Kwame and had Coleman Young for 20 years.
Chicago Had Richard Daley [ sp[ and now his son as mayor. Political Hacks!
Papa Daley ordered the Chicago police to beat up people protesting outside the Democratic Convention in 68
