Beginning batters pave way for Tigers
Top four provide punch; Bonderman struggles in fourth start
By Jason Beck / MLB.com

BRAVES 6, TIGERS 6 (10 innings)
at Lakeland, Fla.
Thursday, March 13

Braves at the plate: Joe Borchard doubled in Javy Lopez and scored on Martin Prado's single to open the scoring in the second inning before Brent Lillibridge tripled in two runs in the fourth. Borchard added a triple of his own in a go-ahead two-run sixth.

Tigers at the plate: Magglio Ordonez had three hits, including an RBI single in the third inning. Gary Sheffield added a two-run home run, his first of the spring, to pull Detroit ahead briefly in the fifth.

Braves on the mound: Starter Chuck James pitched two scoreless innings before Jo-Jo Reyes gave up five runs on seven hits over three innings. Jeff Bennett followed with two scoreless innings of relief before three walks and a hit batsman by Jeff Ridgway allowed the Tigers to tie the game.

Tigers on the mound: Starter Jeremy Bonderman struggled with his command at times, allowing three earned runs on six hits over four innings. Atlanta pulled ahead off of Freddy Dolsi before Todd Jones and Zach Miner pitched a scoreless inning apiece.

Grapefruit League records: Braves 9-5, Tigers 11-5-1

Up next for the Tigers: The Tigers go under the lights for their first night game of the spring on Friday when they visit the Astros for a 7:05 p.m. ET game at Osceola County Stadium in Kissimmee, Fla. Watch on MLB.TV as Nate Robertson is slated to make the start opposite Wandy Rodriguez.

Up next for the Braves: The Braves travel to Clearwater on Friday for a 1:05 p.m. ET game against the Phillies at Brighthouse Field. Tim Hudson is scheduled to start opposite Francisco Rosario.

They do that in ST games. They did try going one extra inning to see if someone wins, but they don't want to over due the stress on the teams. Mainly the visiting team. They don't bring all their extra players. Be glad, it's not a loss!

I sat in the seat right next to the Braves dugout....SWEET!!

I talked to Bobby Cox (who, for some strange reason wore jersey #53 with the name "Dews" on the back of it??) and Terry Pendleton.
They were joking around a lot.

It was cool to be right there when the players were in the on-deck circle. I said hi to Larry "Chipper" Jones!!

I sat right behind John Schuerholtz...Braves GM. They brought him a Strawberry Shortcake Sunday and told him it was compliments of "Mr. Dombrowski".....cool!!
