Willis commanding in second start
New acquisition tosses three scoreless innings against Braves
By Jason Beck / MLB.com

BRAVES 5, TIGERS 4 (8 1/2 innings)
at Lakeland, Fla.
Thursday, March 6

Braves at the plate: Yunel Escobar, the young infielder whose emergence made Edgar Renteria expendable, had two hits, including a bases-clearing double in the fifth to pull Atlanta ahead.

Tigers at the plate: Ramon Santiago's 3-for-3 performance at the plate improved his numbers to 8-for-11 for the spring. Brandon Inge tripled in Curtis Granderson in the third inning and scored when Gary Sheffield, Ryan Raburn and Jacque Jones all drew walks off starter Tom Glavine.

Braves on the mound: After an easy first inning and two runners stranded in the second, Glavine's three walks and two hits allowed in the third pushed him to his limit for the game. Ryan Drese entered to strand the bases loaded and retire the side in the fourth.

Tigers on the mound: Former Braves nemesis Dontrelle Willis worked through three relatively easy innings before the Braves plated five runs in the fifth off Armando Galarraga.

Grapefruit League records: Braves 6-2, Tigers 5-4-1.

Up next: The Disney end of this home-and-home series between the Tigers and Braves takes place Friday at the Wide World of Sports complex at 1:05 p.m. ET. Kenny Rogers will make his second start of the spring opposite Mike Hampton. Renteria will return to Braves camp for the first time since his trade to Detroit last October. Other Tigers regulars scheduled to make the trip are Magglio Ordonez, Carlos Guillen and Ivan Rodriguez. The game will be broadcast on MLB Gameday Audio.

Willis did good. Galarraga sucks so let's not count on him. Jones has his ERA down to 21. Blackjack!
