Tigers to hold tryout camp on March 4

By Jason Beck / MLB.com | 2/11/2013 7:59 P.M. ET

LAKELAND, Fla. -- While the Tigers take the field for Spring Training with dreams of a championship and prospects hit Minor League camp with dreams of the big leagues, others will be dreaming of simply playing the game for a living or keeping a dream alive.

For many, the Tigers' tryout camp will be one more chance. For the Tigers, it's a chance to try to find a talent or two to fill a hole in the farm system. It's an annual Spring Training opportunity, scheduled this year for Monday, March 4, at Tigertown's Minor League complex behind Joker Marchant Stadium.

Players ages 18-23 are welcome, as are players with previous pro experience. While participants need to bring their own glove and workout equipment, the Tigers will supply wood bats, balls and helmets.

No pre-registration or participation fee is necessary. Players simply have to show up for registration starting at 8 a.m. ET before the camp begins at 9 a.m. From there, players will be evaluated in pitching, hitting and fielding workouts.
