After a season in which some thought Max Scherzer was the scarier pitcher, Verlander has reprised the ace role he fit so well last year. Unlike last October, weather shouldn't trip up Verlander, allowing to him Game 1 and a potential Game 5.

Parker is the first A's rookie in team history to start Game 1 of a postseason series. Yet this rookie boasts the stuff and poise of a veteran, having tossed at least six innings in 22 of his 29 starts while allowing two runs or fewer 17 times.
