Marte was tabbed as the starter due to a right ankle injury to Max Scherzer. Marte has made 16 career appearances but has never started a game in the Majors. However, he has made 51 starts in the Minors.



Royals: RHP Luis Mendoza (8-9, 4.36 ERA)

Mendoza gets a chance to even his record in the last game of the season. He did well against the Tigers last Thursday at Detroit, giving up four runs (only two earned) in the first two innings and then facing the minimum 15 batters in his last five.
