Tigers: RHP Justin Verlander (14-8, 2.82 ERA)

Verlander looked more like his 2011 and early '12 form last Friday in Cleveland with seven shutout innings on six hits with six strikeouts. An adjustment to throw a little harder in early innings resulted in a much smoother start.



Athletics: LHP Brett Anderson (4-1, 1.93 ERA)

In his fifth start since returning from Tommy John surgery, Anderson had his first rough outing Thursday against the Angels. He allowed nine hits and five earned runs over 6 2/3 innings. Since returning, he has 24 strikeouts and just four walks.
