Tigers: RHP Justin Verlander (5-3, 2.55 ERA)

Not since April of last year has Verlander lost back-to-back starts. He hasn't lost three straight outings since 2008, but the Yankees figure to provide him a test. He has three no-decisions and a loss in their last four regular-season meetings.



Yankees: RHP Phil Hughes (4-5, 5.64 ERA)

Hughes was hit for seven runs and 11 hits, both season highs, on May 28 by the Angels in a no-decision. Hughes was 3-2 with a 4.66 ERA in six May starts and faced the Tigers once last year, allowing five runs in four innings.
