| Robinson's Record Day Propels Michigan Past UConn in Season OpenerSept. 4, 2010• Box Score | Quotes | Notes | Photo Gallery | Player Participation | Buy Photos! • Field Pass with Richard Retyi • Video Highlights | Postgame Press Conference | Michigan Rewind Site: Ann Arbor, Mich. (Michigan Stadium) Score: Michigan 30, Connecticut 10 Records: U-M (1-0), Connecticut (0-1) Attendance: 113,090 Next U-M Game: Saturday, Sept. 11 -- at Notre Dame (South Bend, Ind.), 3:30 p.m. ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Sophomore quarterback Denard Robinson (Deerfield Beach, Fla./Deerfield Beach HS) rushed for 197 yards -- a school record for a quarterback -- and one touchdown to go along with 186 yards passing and a score to lead the University of Michigan football team to a 30-10 victory over Connecticut at the Rededication of Michigan Stadium. The Wolverines won their second straight regular-season opener by dominating the ground game with a 287-138 advantage in rushing yards for three touchdowns on 61 carries. In his first career start at quarterback, Robinson carried it 29 times for the record total and went 19-of-22 passing. He also posted a 32-yard touchdown rush and a 11-yard touchdown toss. Sophomore superback Vincent Smith (Pahokee, Fla./Pahokee HS) and junior superback Michael Shaw (Trotwood, Ohio/Trotwood-Madison HS) were part of Michigan's three-headed rushing attack along with Robinson. Smith had 14 rushes for 51 yards and three catches for 18 yards with two touchdowns, a 12-yard rush and an 11-yard reception. Shaw recorded 15 carries for 48 yards and a three-yard score to go along with one reception for 16 yards. In shutting out the Huskies in the second half, the Michigan defense was led by fifth-year senior middle linebacker Obi Ezeh (Grand Rapids, Mich./Catholic Central HS), who had a team-high nine tackles and a fumble recovery. Fellow fifth-year senior linebacker Jonas Mouton (Los Angeles, Calif./Venice HS) solidified the linebacker unit with eight stops, including an assist on a tackle for loss. Junior/sophomore cornerback J.T. Floyd (Greenville, S.C./J.L. Mann HS) recorded six tackles and a forced fumble, while sophomore/freshman safety Cameron Gordon (Detroit, Mich./Inkster HS) posted five tackles, one pass break-up and blocked a Connecticut field goal in his collegiate debut. After a quick three-and-out by Connecticut, the Wolverines started from their own four-yard line. Robinson led the Michigan offense down the field on its opening drive, completing both of his passes for 23 yards and adding 58 yards on the ground. Robinson provided two big plays -- a 22-yard scramble and 16-yard pass to junior tight end Kevin Koger (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer HS) -- to put Michigan just outside the Huskies' red zone. Four plays later, Smith finished the 14-play, 96-yard drive with a 12-yard rushing score with 7:33 remaining in the first quarter. The Huskies drove down to the Michigan 23-yard line on the ensuing series to try a 40-yard field goal in an attempt to get their first points of the contest, but Gordon jumped high to block the line-drive kick. The Michigan offense rewarded the special teams' play by scoring its second touchdown in as many drives on a 32-yard touchdown dash by Robinson to give U-M a 14-0 lead. Robinson rushed for 47 yards on the drive with the scoring rush putting him over 100 yards on the ground in the first quarter. Shaw set up the touchdown run with a 16-yard reception and a five-yard rush. Shaw gained 25 total yards on the seven-play, 77-yard series. Michigan's defense closed out the first quarter by forcing Connecticut into its second three-and-out of the day. The Wolverines held a sizeable yardage advantage after 15 minutes of play, outgaining the Huskies 198 to 57. A short punt by the Huskies gave Michigan the ball at the Connecticut 38-yard line with 12:27 remaining in the second quarter. Three plays into the drive, Robinson hit junior slot receiver Martavious Odoms (Pahokee, Fla./Pahokee HS) with a 15-yard pass on a slant route to right for a first down. On third-and-eight at the 17-yard line, Robinson executed a designed quarterback draw for a 10-yard gain to give the Wolverines a first-and-goal situation. Shaw got the next two touches, diving across the goal line on a three-yard carry for the Wolverines' third rushing touchdown of the first half. Connecticut cut into the Wolverines' lead on its next two possessions with a field goal and a touchdown run for a 21-10 halftime score. Robinson opened the third quarter by showcasing his arm rather than his legs. He completed three third-down passes for first downs to lead U-M across midfield, connecting with senior/junior slot receiver Kelvin Grady (Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids HS) for 16 yards, Odoms for eight yards and junior wide receiver Darryl Stonum (Stafford, Texas/Dulles HS) for 12 yards. Robinson's 11-yard scramble in the Connecticut red zone broke the Michigan record for most rushing yards by a quarterback in a single game. The record-breaking run allowed sophomore/freshman placekicker Brendan Gibbons (West Palm Beach, Fla./Cardinal Newman HS) to make a 24-yard field goal, the first of his collegiate career, to give Michigan a two-touchdown lead. With Connecticut attempting to go for a first down on a critical fourth-and-inches situation inside the Michigan 10-yard line, Floyd forced a Huskies' fumble that Ezeh picked up and returned seven yards. The Wolverines took advantage of the turnover and drove down the field for 89 yards in 11 plays for another score, an 11-yard reception by Smith on a screen pass from Robinson. The scoring drive, which gave the Maize and Blue a 30-10 lead early in the fourth quarter, was highlighted by a career-long 43-yard pass from Robinson to junior/sophomore slot receiver Terrence Robinson (Klein, Texas/Oak HS) over the top of the Huskies' defense. The Maize and Blue prevented Connecticut from cutting into its 20-point lead for the rest of the contest as the offense chewed up the clock with the running game. Michigan travels to South Bend next Saturday (Sept. 11) to face the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, Ind. The game will kick off at 3:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on NBC. Contact: David Ablauf (734) 763-4423 | |

(Notre Dame Stadium) Score: Michigan 28, Notre Dame 24 Records: U-M (2-0), Notre Dame (1-1) Attendance: 80,795 (sellout) Next U-M Game: Saturday, Sept. 18 -- vs. Massachusetts (Michigan Stadium), Noon ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Sophomore quarterback Denard Robinson (Deerfield Beach, Fla./Deerfield Beach HS) scored on a two-yard rush with 27 seconds remaining to give the University of Michigan football team a 28-24 victory over the Fighting Irish on Saturday (Sept. 11) at Notre Dame Stadium. For the second season in a row, the Wolverines mounted a comeback in the final minute over the Irish, this time behind the legs and arms of Robinson, who accounted for 502 of the team's 532 yards of total offense, finishing with 258 yards rushing on 28 carries and 244 yards passing (24-for-40) and one touchdown. Robinson is only the ninth quarterback in FBS history to gain more than 200 yards passing and 200 yards rushing in the same game. He also scored on an 87-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, the longest rushing touchdown in the history of Notre Dame Stadium, the second-longest run all-time by an opponent against Notre Dame and the sixth-longest scoring play from scrimmage in Michigan history. Fifth-year senior linebacker Jonas Mouton (Los Angeles, Calif./Venice) led the way on defense with 13 stops, while sophomore safety Jordan Kovacs (Curtice, Ohio/Clay) finished with 10. Each also recorded an interception in the game. Notre Dame marched down the field on the opening possession of the game, capped off by a one-yard sneak from quarterback Dayne Crist to give the Fighting Irish an early 7-0 advantage. Michigan took advantage of an early Notre Dame miscue, as Mouton intercepted a pass from Notre Dame backup quarterback Tommy Rees, giving the Wolverines prime field position inside the Notre Dame 35-yard line. On the very next play, Robinson faked a run left and hit redshirt sophomore receiver Roy Roundtree (Trotwood, Ohio/Trotwood-Madison), who was wide open in the seam for a 31-yard touchdown, knotting the score at 7-7. A few possessions later, freshman tailback Stephen Hopkins (Double Oak, Texas/Marcus) scored on a one-yard touchdown run in his first career play as a Wolverine, putting Michigan in front, 14-7. Robinson and junior slot receiver Martavious Odoms (Pahokee, Fla./Pahokee) connected on three pass plays during the sequence, combining for 51 of the drive's 65 yards, including a 31-yard pass that set up Hopkins' score. After back-to-back first downs by Notre Dame tailback Armando Allen midway through the second quarter, redshirt sophomore cornerback J.T. Floyd (Greenville, S.C./J.L. Mann) picked off a pass from Notre Dame's other backup quarterback, Nate Montana. However, U-M's following drive led to a three-and-out. On the next Michigan possession, Robinson struck with his legs again, this time on an 87-yard touchdown run to increase U-M's advantage to 21-7. With 1:56 to play in the first half, Robinson took the designed keeper right and followed a huge block down field from Roundtree that sprung his record-setting run. The Fighting Irish had one final opportunity to put some points on the board before halftime. With 10 seconds remaining, Montana connected with Theo Reddick on a 37-yard pass down the left sideline to put Notre Dame on the three-yard line with three ticks left. After calling their final timeout, the Fighting Irish elected to go for a touchdown instead of kick a field goal, but Montana's pass was thrown out of the end zone and Michigan took a 14-point lead into halftime Crist returned to action for Notre Dame in the second half and put the Fighting Irish back on the board, connecting on a 53-yard pass to T.J. Jones to cut the Michigan lead to 21-14. After a Michigan three-and-out, Notre Dame marched down the field again, but the Maize and Blue defense stood its ground in the red zone and forced the Fighting Irish to settle for a 24-yard field goal, making the score 21-17 midway through the third quarter. The Wolverines had a chance to add to the score late in the third quarter, but a 39-yard field goal attempt went wide right. On the first play following the missed field goal, senior defensive tackle Greg Banks (Denver, Colo./Montbello) and redshirt junior defensive end Ryan Van Bergen (Whitehall, Mich./Whitehall) put pressure on Crist, forcing a pass into the hands of Kovacs following a tip at the line by Mouton. After the offense stalled, the punt team pinned Notre Dame inside its own five-yard line. Michigan pinned Notre Dame deep in its own territory again with less than four minutes remaining in the game, until Crist connected with tight end Kyle Rudolph for a 95-yard touchdown pass to put the Fighting Irish in front 24-21 with 3:41 to go in the game. On the ensuing possession, Michigan drove 72 yards down the field in 12 plays, chewing up 3:14. The Wolverines converted on a third-and-five from Notre Dame's 17-yard line when Robinson hit Roundtree down the middle for a 15-yard gain, setting up Robinson's two-yard scamper on the next play. Notre Dame had one final opportunity to win the game, but Crist's final pass sailed out of the end zone as time expired. Michigan returns to Ann Arbor for a non-conference game against Massachusetts next Saturday (Sept. 18). The game will be broadcast nationally by the Big Ten Network starting at noon. Robinson amassed 67 total offensive yards -- 59 passing and eight rushing -- in the series. Facing third-and-11 near midfield, senior/junior slot receiver Kelvin Grady (Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) caught a 43-yard pass -- a career long -- to place Michigan inside the UMass 10-yard line. Two plays later, Shaw rushed up the middle for a one-yard score to give the Wolverines a 7-3 lead with 3:35 remaining in the opening frame. The Minutemen regained the lead on the following drive with a 10-yard touchdown run by running back Jonathan Hernandez to go up 10-7 early in the second quarter. Hernandez added to Massachusetts' lead with his second touchdown, a nine-yard rush, to make the score 17-7 with 1:17 remaining in the first half. Michigan struck back on the very next play from scrimmage as Robinson threw a screen pass to Stonum, who used his speed to elude defenders and race 66 yards down the right sideline for a touchdown. The scoring play was a career-long for both Robinson and Stonum, cutting the Michigan deficit to 17-14. Two plays into the Minutemen's next drive, Kovacs forced and recovered a fumble near midfield, allowing senior/junior wide receiver Junior Hemingway (Conway, S.C./Conway HS) to bring down a 36-yard reception inside the UMass red zone. Three plays later, Robinson, who went 3-of-4 for 51 yards on the drive, threw his second touchdown pass to Stonum -- a nine-yard completion -- to give U-M a 21-17 halftime lead. Shaw opened the second half with a bang, taking a handoff from Robinson and sprinting 34 yards up the middle for his second touchdown of the contest. The Wolverines reached midfield on the second play of the drive on a career-long 15-yard end-around rush by Grady. Shaw touched the ball twice for 43 yards on the next four Michigan plays with the last one resulting in the score. The six-play, 69-yard drive gave Michigan its first double-digit lead of the contest, 28-17, with 12:29 remaining in the third quarter. Robinson and sophomore superback Vincent Smith (Pahokee, Fla./Pahokee HS) were responsible for every yard of the Wolverines' eight-play, 94-yard touchdown drive with 6:18 remaining in the third frame to make the score 35-17. Robinson rushed three times for 21 yards and completed his only pass attempt to Stonum for 46 yards, while Smith had four carries for 27 yards. Robinson capped off the drive with an eight-yard designed keeper to the left for his third touchdown and first rushing score. After the Minutemen scored on a seven-yard touchdown rush by quarterback Kyle Havens, the Wolverines scored on their fifth straight possession to extend their lead to 42-24 as Shaw recorded his third rushing touchdown with 11:57 remaining in the fourth quarter. Shaw exploded for a career-long 50-yard rush on the first play of the drive to put Michigan just outside the Massachusetts' red zone, putting him over 100 yards rushing on the day. Shaw and Smith each got two carries for 11 yards on the next four plays, with Shaw diving across the goal line for a four-yard score to cap off the drive. UMass added two touchdowns in the last 5:15 of regulation to make it a one-possession game, but the Minutemen's onside kick went out of bounds, and Michigan ran out the clock. The Wolverines complete their two-game home stand against Bowling Green next Saturday (Sept. 25) at Michigan Stadium. The game will be televised by ESPN/ESPN2 with the kickoff slated at noon. The Wolverines posted the second-most total yards in a single game with 721 yards -- 466 rushing and 255 passing -- to surpass the 500-yard mark for the third consecutive contest. Three U-M quarterbacks saw game action against BGSU. Sophomore quarterback Denard Robinson (Deerfield Beach, Fla./Deerfield Beach HS) recorded 189 yards of total offense -- 129 rushing and 60 passing -- and two rushing touchdowns on nine touches before exiting the contest late in the first quarter. Robinson accounted for 54 yards of total offense on the drive, completing both of his pass attempts for 43 yards and gaining 11 yards on the ground. Roundtree grabbed a 36-yard pass on a corner route to just outside the Bowling Green red zone. Robinson and Shaw touched the ball on the next five plays -- all rushes -- with Robinson capping the drive with a designed keeper off the right tackle for a two-yard touchdown. After the Michigan defense forced a three-and-out, Robinson doubled U-M's lead with an exhilarating 47-yard touchdown scamper with 9:28 remaining in the first quarter. Robinson ran a designed sweep to the left, juked a Bowling Green defender and put on the jets as he cut back across the field into open space for his second rushing score. Robinson was responsible for every yard on the five-play, 88-yard series. Mouton sacked the Bowling Green quarterback for a 10-yard loss on the following drive, and the offense rewarded his effort. Gardner entered the contest after Robinson opened the drive with a 47-yard run. On his second snap of the drive, Gardner completed his first career pass to junior wide receiver Darryl Stonum (Stafford, Texas/Dulles) for 30 yards on a go route. Two plays later, sophomore/freshman slot receiver Jeremy Gallon (Apopka, Fla./Apopka HS) caught his first career pass from Gardner in the left flat and ran 11 yards across the goal line for each player's first career touchdown. The 91-yard drive gave the Wolverines a 21-0 advantage with 4:21 remaining in the opening frame. The Falcons responded by scoring a touchdown on each of their next two drives, cutting into the Wolverines' lead, 21-14. Forcier became the third Michigan quarterback of the game, entering late in the second quarter. After Bowling Green was penalized for defensive pass interference, Forcier threw a screen pass to Roundtree that resulted in a 22-yard gain down the right sideline to the Falcons' 10-yard line. Shaw received the next two touches, plowing into the end zone for a two-yard score on the second rush. The 10-play, 69-yard touchdown drive gave the Wolverines a 28-14 halftime lead. After Van Bergen recorded his first sack of the season to force a Bowling Green punt, Michigan got a safety on a high snap over the punter's head that rolled out of the end zone. The Wolverines tacked on a touchdown following the free kick as Roundtree went over 100 yards receiving on a 21-yard catch over the middle of the field to place U-M at the BGSU 28-yard line. Shaw and Smith combined for seven rushes for 26 rushing yards before senior/junior fullback John McColgan (Saginaw, Mich./Nouvel Catholic) scored a touchdown on a two-yard play-action pass -- his first career reception -- from Forcier to give Michigan a 37-14 lead. On the third play of Bowling Green's next drive, Mouton picked off a pass for his second interception of the season and returned it nine yards to the Bowling Green 37-yard line. Three plays later, Smith sprinted into the end zone for an eight-yard touchdown rush to extend the Wolverines' lead to 44-14. After a Bowling Green score, Smith answered the Falcons' touchdown by adding his second touchdown rush on the day early in the fourth quarter, a one-yard plunge. Forcier accounted for 44 yards on the scoring drive, completing all three of his passes for 28 yards and rushing once for 16 yards. The Wolverines added two more rushing touchdowns to cap the scoring. Sophomore/freshman Fitzgerald Toussaint (Youngstown, Ohio/Liberty) scored on a five-yard run up the middle after gaining 61 yards on his first career play from scrimmage. Gardner scrambled seven yards on fourth down and got just inside the right pylon for his second touchdown with 3:11 left in the contest for the final 65-21 margin. Michigan opens the Big Ten Conference season on the road against Indiana in Bloomington next Saturday (Oct. 2). Robinson completed a 42-yard pass down the right sideline to senior/junior wide receiver Junior Hemingway (Conway, S.C./Conway HS) to the Hoosiers' four-yard line. Robinson carried the ball for eight, 17 and two yards prior to the pass play. Robinson racked up 494 yards of total offense against the Hoosiers and had his fifth straight 100-yard rushing effort. The 494 total offensive yards are second only to his school record 502-yard effort at Notre Dame (Sept. 11, 2010). Robinson completed 10-of-16 passes for a career-best 277 yards and three touchdowns. In addition, Robinson rushed 19 times for 217 yards and two touchdowns. Junior/sophomore slot receiver Roy Roundtree (Trotwood, Ohio/Trotwood-Madison HS) tied a career high with 126 yards on five receptions and one touchdown -- his second straight game with more 100 receiving yards. Sophomore superback Vincent Smith (Pahokee, Fla./Pahokee HS ) rushed nine times for 80 yards and scored on a 56-yard touchdown run. Hemingway caught three passes for a career-best 129 yards. Redshirt freshman free safety Cameron Gordon (Detroit, Mich./Inkster HS) led the Wolverine defensive with 15 tackles, including 12 solo and an interception returned for 19 yards. Junior/sophomore J.T. Floyd (Greenville, S.C./J.L. Mann HS) added a career-high 13 tackles and fifth-year senior linebacker Jonas Mouton (Los Angeles, Calif./Venice HS) added 12. Gordon picked up his second career interception that the offense turned into seven points. The defense made two key fourth-down stops in the second half with the Hoosiers inside U-M territory. Indiana struck on the opening possession of the game, marching 77 yards in 11 plays for a 7-0 lead at 9:14 of the first quarter. Quarterback Ben Chappell completed a five-yard touchdown pass to Duwyce Wilson on third-and-goal. Michigan answered immediately, scoring on its second offensive play as Robinson ran right through the middle of the defense and cut left for a 72-yard touchdown run. The first offensive play of the game was a four-yard run by Smith. After a defensive stop, the Wolverines marched downfield in quick fashion, scoring on a five-play, 85-yard drive in 1:54. Robinson tossed the ball to Roundtree in the left flat, where he shook the defender and took the ball 32 yards for the touchdown. Michigan was within a yard of another touchdown, but a miscue on the center-to-quarterback exchange led to a fumble on the one-yard line. U-M moved into scoring territory on a 74-yard pass play from Robinson to Roundtree to the two-yard line. The Hoosiers then marched 99 yards for the game-tying touchdown. The scoring run came on a 22-yard run by Darius Willis as the 13-play drive consumed 5:20. Michigan regained the lead, 21-14, with 2:43 left in the half as Robinson tossed a three-yard touchdown pass to junior tight end Kevin Koger (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer HS) on third-and-goal. Michigan moved 81 yards in nine plays, with Robinson completing all three passes for 24 yards and rushed the ball four times for 47 yards. Gordon changed the momentum for the Wolverines with a goal line interception and 19-yard return that gave U-M the ball back and thwarted the Hoosiers' scoring chance. However, Indiana knotted the score at 21 apiece on the last play of the first half on a two-yard touchdown pass from Chappell to Damarlo Belcher. The Hoosiers moved 72 yards in 10 plays, with Chappell completing 6-of-7 passes for 75 yards and his second touchdown of the day. Michigan started the second half just the way it started the game, scoring a touchdown on its second offensive play. This time, Robinson tossed a quick slant to senior/junior wide receiver Junior Hemingway (Conway, S.C./Conway HS), who broke a tackle and went 70 yards for a touchdown. The scoring pass is the longest reception of Hemingway's career and the longest passing play of Robinson's career. The two-play, 72-yard scoring drive began with a two-yard run by Smith. The Hoosiers answered two series later at the 6:55 mark of the third quarter as Darius Willis scored on a four-yard run. It was his second rushing touchdown of the contest and capped a five-play, 61-yard drive that knotted the score at 28-28. Michigan punched back in quick order to regain the advantage, 35-28, as Smith took the handoff and went around right end for a 56-yard touchdown. Robinson tossed a 13-yard pass to Roundtree on the very next play before Smith's TD run that culminated a three-play drive. Indiana tied the score at 35-35 with 75 seconds left in regulation on a 19-yard touchdown pass from Chappell to Willis on fourth-and-five. The game-tying 13-play, 80-yard drive consumed 5:57 of the clock before the Wolverines marched downfield on their final possession to claim the victory. Michigan returns to the Big House for its annual battle for the Paul Bunyan Trophy with in-state rival Michigan State next Saturday (Oct. 9). The game will be broadcast regionally on ABC starting at 3:30 p.m. EDT. The remainder of the country that does not receive the game on ABC can view the game on ESPN (Coverage Map). Three interceptions in the contest by the Wolverines, including two in the red zone, halted the Michigan offense. Sophomore quarterback Denard Robinson (Deerfield Beach, Fla./Deerfield Beach) put up strong numbers for the sixth week in a row with 215 yards passing, 86 yards rushing and two touchdowns (one pass, one rush). On the other side of the ball, the Michigan defense allowed three touchdown plays of 40 yards or more in surrendering 24 straight points to the Spartans. The Wolverines sacked Michigan State quarterback Kirk Cousins twice but ceded scoring plays of 61, 41 and 41 yards. Senior/junior Ryan Van Bergen (Whitehall, Mich./Whitehall) recorded a solo sack and junior Mike Martin (Redford, Mich./Cahtolic Central) and sophomore Craig Roh (Scottsdale, Ariz./Chaparral) assisted on another, but the Wolverines surrendered 249 yards on the ground and 287 through the air in the loss. Michigan opened scoring on their second drive, marching from the U-M 10-yard line to set up a 34-yard field goal from sophomore/freshman placekicker Seth Broekhuizen (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian) -- the first of his career -- to take a 3-0 lead with 1:25 remaining in the first quarter. The Wolverines responded to a long MSU touchdown play with a Robinson touchdown pass to senior tight end Martell Webb (Pontiac, Mich./Northern) -- his first catch of the year -- taking a 10-7 lead midway through the second quarter. The Spartans reached the end zone less than four minutes later on a 41-yard touchdown run to take a 14-10 lead -- the beginning of a 24-point scoring streak for MSU. The Maize and Blue tried to mount a late rally as Robinson punched in his second touchdown of the contest with a four-yard rush -- set up by a 17-yard, fourth-down completion to senior/junior slot receiver Kelvin Grady (Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) -- on the first play of the fourth quarter to make the score 31-17. The Michigan defense forced a three-and-out, giving the offense a chance to cut Michigan State's lead to one score, but Robinson threw his third interception on a deep pass intended for junior/sophomore wide receiver Roy Roundtree (Trotwood, Ohio/Trotwood-Madison). The Spartans added a field goal for a final score of 34-17. Michigan finishes up its two-game home stand next Saturday (Oct. 16) when it hosts Iowa at Michigan Stadium for homecoming. The Wolverines and Hawkeyes kick off at 3:30 p.m., and the game will be televised on ABC/ESPN. Contact: Dave Ablauf (734) 763-4423

(Michigan Stadium) Score: #15 Iowa 38, Michigan 28 Records: U-M (5-2, 1-2 Big Ten), Iowa (5-1, 2-0 Big Ten) Attendance: 112,784 (sellout) Next U-M Game: Saturday, Oct. 30 -- at Penn State (State College, Pa.), 8 p.m. ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan football team (NR AP/No. 24 Coaches) scored 21 fourth-quarter points, but the second-half rally fell short against Iowa (No. 15 AP/No. 14 Coaches), 38-28, on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 16) at Michigan Stadium. The Wolverines' offense racked up 522 total yards of offense, but four turnovers and eight penalties for 66 yards prevented U-M from capitalizing on multiple scoring opportunities. Sophomore quarterback Tate Forcier (San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch), who came in on the second drive of the third quarter, completed 17-of-26 passes for a season-high 239 yards and a touchdown while rushing for another score to lead the Michigan offense. Senior/junior wide receiver Junior Hemingway (Conway, S.C./Conway) set career highs for receptions (nine) and receiving yards (134) and scored his second touchdown of the season, while junior wideout Darryl Stonum (Stafford, Texas/Dulles) added a career-high nine catches for 97 yards. Sophomore quarterback Denard Robinson (Deerfield Beach, Fla./Deerfield Beach) eclipsed 100-yards rushing (105) for the sixth time this season and passed for 96 yards and a touchdown in a little more than two quarters of action. On the other side of the ball, junior/sophomore cornerback J.T. Floyd (Greenville, S.C./J.L. Mann) led the way with 11 tackles, junior/sophomore safety Jordan Kovacs (Curtice, Ohio/Clay) tallied eight tackles, including a career-tying 2.5 tackles-for-loss and a pass breakup, and junior/sophomore middle linebacker Kenny Demens (Oak Park, Mich./Detroit Country Day) had a career-high eight tackles in his first collegiate start. After the Michigan defense forced an Iowa three-and-out on the opening possession, the Wolverines marched down the field in 13 plays -- converting three third mdowns -- for a touchdown and 7-0 lead. Facing third-and-two, Hemingway snagged an 18-yard pass on a hitch route along the right sideline to enter Iowa territory, before a Robinson eight-yard keeper off the right tackle on fourth-and-one brought the Wolverines to the Hawkeyes' 21-yard line. Michigan's third third-down conversion resulted in a score as Robinson found sophomore superback Vincent Smith (Pahokee, Fla./Pahokee) on a slant route over the middle on third down for an eight-yard touchdown pass. The Hawkeyes responded with 28 unanswered points after U-M's opening drive score. Two touchdown passes -- 14- and 31-yarders -- by senior quarterback Ricky Stanzi to senior wide receiver Derrell Johnson-Koulianos and two rushing scores by sophomore running back Adam Robinson gave Iowa a 28-7 advantage late in the third quarter. The Wolverines had two prime opportunities to snap the Hawkeyes' point streak but could not take advantage. Robinson drove the Wolverines into scoring range midway through the second quarter, completing a 20-yard screen pass to sophomore/freshman slot receiver Jeremy Gallon (Apopka, Fla./Apopka) and a 13-yard strike to junior tight end Kevin Koger (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer), but Iowa blocked U-M's 38-yard field goal attempt with 8:33 to go in the second. Forcier entered the contest early in the third quarter and led U-M into the Iowa red zone on two fourth-down conversions -- a 15-yard rush by freshman superback Stephen Hopkins (Double Oak, Texas/Marcus) and a 12-yard reception by junior/sophomore wideout Roy Roundtree (Trotwood, Ohio/Trotwood-Madison). The Wolverines squandered the chance with a fumble following the second fourth-down conversion, giving the ball back to the Hawkeyes. Trailing 28-7, the Wolverines began their fourth-quarter rally with 13:10 left in the contest, snapping the Hawkeyes' streak of 28 unanswered points as Hopkins pummeled across the goal line from two yards out to cut into the Hawkeyes' lead to two scores. It was the first rushing touchdown allowed by Iowa this season. During the scoring march, Forcier threw eight passes on the first nine plays of the scoring drive -- completing six for 69 yards -- before Hopkins scored his second touchdown of the year three plays later. After Stanzi and Johnson-Koulianos pushed Iowa's lead back to 21 points with their third touchdown connection, Forcier lobbed a 45-yard pass to a wide-open Hemingway along the left sidelines on the fourth play of the drive for the score to cut the Michigan deficit back to 35-21. Iowa was forced to punt on its ensuing offensive possession as the Michigan defense took advantage of an Iowa false start in a three-and-out possession. U-M needed only six plays to go 69 yards for another touchdown, using a 31-yard pass from Forcier to Hemingway to set up first-and-goal from the three-yard line. Forcier then scored his first rushing touchdown of the season on the next play, bringing the Wolverines within a touchdown, 35-28, with 6:55 remaining in the contest. Michigan's kickoff sailed out of bounds, with Iowa taking advantage of the short field with a 10-play drive that resulted in a 30-yard field goal, pushing the Hawkeye lead back to 38-28 with 2:53 remaining in the contest, preserving the Iowa victory. The Wolverines take a week off before heading to Penn State to face the Nittany Lions on Saturday, Oct. 30. The game is slated to kick off at 8 p.m. and will be televised on ABC, ESPN or ESPN2. Robinson racked up 381 yards of total offense, completing 11-of-23 passes for 190 yards and one touchdown and rushing for 191 yards on 27 carries with three TDs. He has 1,287 yards rushing on the season, surpassing the previous record of 1,270 yards set by Indiana's Antwaan Randle El in 2000. Junior/sophomore middle linebacker Kenny Demens (Detroit, Mich./Country Day HS) led the defensive effort with a career-best 12 tackles and one tackle for loss. Junior/sophomore strong safety Jordan Kovacs (Curtice, Ohio/Clay HS) chipped in 11 stops. Penn State grabbed a 7-0 lead on a four-yard touchdown run by tailback Evan Royster. After holding the Wolverines to a three-and-out, PSU proceeded to march 71 yards in 14 plays for the game's first points. The Nittany Lions converted three third-down chances on the drive. Quarterback Matt McGloin completed 3-of-6 passes for 31 yards and had an 11-yard run that converted a third-and-10 situation. Royster carried the ball four times for 26 yards. Michigan answered on the very next possession on a 32-yard scamper by Robinson on a third-and-three play. The Wolverines moved 80 yards in nine plays and consumed 3:25. Robinson rushed four times for 48 yards and completed two passes for 21 yards on the scoring drive. Sophomore running back Vincent Smith (Pahokee, Fla./Pahokee HS) added three carries for 11 yards. Penn State then scored on its second straight possession and grabbed a 14-7 lead on a one-yard run by Royster, who started the drive with a 20-yard run up the middle and added a 19-yard run that gave PSU a first-and-goal at the one. After a trick play lost 11 yards, Matt McGloin completed a 27-yard pass to wideout Derek Moye to Michigan's 20-yard line. The Wolverines cut into the deficit and made it 14-10 as redshirt freshman kicker Seth Broekhuizen (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS) converted a 37-yard field goal, the longest field goal of his career. The Wolverines' 15-play, 55-yard scoring drive stalled on a holding penalty after gaining a first-and-goal at the PSU 10. Robinson rushed four times for 27 yards and completed 2-of-6 passes for 28 yards. Freshman tailback Stephen Hopkins (Double Oak, Texas/Marcus HS) converted a key fourth-and-one play with a three-yard run that gave U-M the first-and-goal from the 10-yard line. Penn State scored two touchdowns in the final four minutes to grab a 28-10 lead at half. McGloin scored on a one-yard keeper at 3:27 and tossed a 20-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Graham Zug with 1:02 remaining to build an 18-point advantage at half. Penn State increased its lead to 31-10 on the opening possession of the third quarter when icker Collin Wagner converted a 37-yard field goal at 9:57 of the third stanza to cap a 10-play, 62-yard drive. The key play on the series was a 40-yard pass from McGloin to wideout Moye on third-and-10 from PSU's 25-yard line. Michigan responded quickly as Robinson tossed a 60-yard touchdown pass to junior tight end Kevin Koger (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer HS), who was wide open down the seam and ran about 40 yards after the catch for the longest passing play of his career. The five-play, 80-yard scoring drive took 1:59. Robinson added runs of eight and 19 yards. However, the Nittany Lions marched 80 yards in seven plays to answer Michigan's touchdown. Fullback Michael Zordich scored on a five-yard run up the middle to give PSU a 38-17 lead with 3:59 remaining in the third frame. Royster had four carries for 24 yards on the drive and McGloin completed both passes for 41 yards, including a 34-yard pass to Devon Smith. The Wolverines continued to chip into the Nittany Lions advantage as Robinson scored on a one-yard keeper at 1:36 of the third quarter. U-M started at its 47-yard line following a 47-yard kickoff return by redshirt freshman Jeremy Gallon (Apopka, Fla./Apopka HS). Robinson completed 2-of-3 passes for 36 yards and rushed twice for eight yards. After stopping the Nittany Lions, Michigan scored on its third straight possession as Robinson ran it in from four yards out to cut the deficit to 38-31 at 9:25 of the fourth quarter. Robinson carried the ball on seven of the 11 plays in the scoring drive, gaining 45 yards on the ground. He also completed two passes for 24 yards and Vincent Smith carried the ball twice. Penn State increased its lead to 41-31 on a 42-yard field goal by Collin Wagner at 5:43 of the final stanza. The seven-play, 39-yard scoring drive was aided by a personal foul penalty on the kickoff that gave PSU possession at its 49-yard line. Michigan was unable to get a first down on four straight plays and Penn State ran out the rest of the clock. U-M returns to Ann Arbor for the first time in three weeks for a battle with Illinois next Saturday (Nov. 6) at noon at Michigan Stadium. The game will be televised on ESPN. (Michigan Stadium) Score: Michigan 67, Illinois 65 (3OT) Records: U-M (6-3, 2-3 Big Ten), Illinois (5-4, 3-3 Big Ten) Attendance: 111,441 (sellout) Next U-M Game: Saturday, Nov. 13 -- at Purdue (West Lafayette, Ind.), Noon (TV: Big Ten Network) ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Junior superback Michael Shaw (Trotwood, Ohio/Trotwood-Madison) bulldozed his way into the end zone for one-yard touchdown, before senior/junior wideout Junior Hemingway (Conway, S.C./Conway) caught the two-point conversion and the University of Michigan football team stopped Illinois' two-point try in triple overtime to pull out a 67-65 win on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 6) at Michigan Stadium. After the Fighting Illini cut the Wolverines' lead to two with a three-yard touchdown rush in the third overtime, the Wolverine defense came with a full-out blitz, forcing the Illinois quarterback to throw a pass as he was falling down that harmlessly hit the ground, signaling the Michigan victory. The offensive outburst broke Michigan records for most combined points in a single game (132), most combined total yardage in a single game (1,237), most individual receiving yards in a single game -- 246 by junior/sophomore slot receiver Roy Roundtree (Trotwood, Ohio/Trotwood-Madison) -- and most passing yards in a half -- 262 by sophomore quarterback Denard Robinson (Deerfield Beach, Fla./Deerfield Beach). Roundtree caught touchdown passes of 75 and 33 yards in a first half that featured a 31-31 halftime score, including 25 and 24 points scored in the second quarter by Illinois and Michigan, respectively. Robinson completed 10-of-20 passes for a career-high 305 yards and three touchdowns and had 19 carries for 62 yards. Shaw matched a career high with three rushing touchdowns -- two of which came in overtime (first and third) -- on nine carries for 44 yards. Hemingway grabbed six passes for 104 yards and two scores, including a TD in the second OT, in addition to the game-winning two-point conversion. Freshman superback Stephen Hopkins carried the ball five times for a career-high 45 yards and a touchdown, including a career-long 32-yard rush. Fifth-year senior linebacker Jonas Mouton had a career-high 14 tackles, including one for a loss, a fumble recovery and a pass breakup. Junior/sophomore middle linebacker Kenny Demens (Oak Park, Mich./Detroit Country Day) recorded double-digit tackles for the second consecutive week (10) and his first career pass breakup in his third career start. The Wolverines scored on the first play from scrimmage to take an early 7-0 lead as Robinson faked the handoff, causing the Illinois safeties to bite and leaving Roundtree wide open on a seam route up the middle for a career-long 75-yard touchdown reception. A flurry of turnovers -- three by the Wolverines and one by the Illini -- in a four-minute span allowed Illinois to take a 14-7 lead early in the second quarter. A program-record 49 points were scored in the second quarter, with U-M scoring touchdowns on a fourth-down, 33-yard catch and run by Roundtree, a four-yard rush by Hopkins and a tackle-breaking, 45-yard reception by Hemingway. Both teams added field goals in the final minute for a 31-31 tie at halftime. The Wolverines took advantage of the Illini's missed 39-yard field goal attempt with an 18-yard touchdown burst by Shaw up the middle for a 38-31 lead with 7:36 left in the third quarter. Illinois capitalized on a Michigan fumble and scored 14 points -- a 27-yard touchdown pass and one-yard rush -- in the first 3:30 of the fourth quarter to take a 45-38 lead. With sophomore quarterback Tate Forcier (San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch) at the helm, the Michigan offense drove 80 yards in 12 plays to tie the game at 45 apiece with 1:47 left in the regulation. On third-and-four at the Illinois nine-yard line, Forcier rolled out the pocket to the left and threw a bullet to Stonum in the end zone. Both teams had opportunities to win the game in regulation, but offensive miscues ended the threats and forced Michigan's first overtime this season. The Wolverines started with the football in the first overtime period. Forcier connected with Hemingway for a 13-yard completion on third-and-four to set up a Shaw five-yard rushing touchdown two plays later. Michigan had an opportunity to win the game in the first overtime, but Illinois scored a one-yard touchdown on fourth-and-goal to extend the contest. After the Fighting Illini scored on the first play of the second overtime period, Hemingway snagged a tipped pass on a nine-yard throw from Forcier, setting up the dramatic third-overtime victory for the Wolverines. The Wolverines travel to West Lafayette, Ind., next Saturday (Nov. 13) to face Purdue. The game is slated to kick off at noon and will be televised on Big Ten Network. The Wolverines move to 7-3 on the season and 3-3 in league play as they limited the Boilermakers to 251 yards during the rain-soaked affair. The game remained close because of five turnovers by both teams. Sophomore quarterback Denard Robinson (Deerfield Beach, Fla./Deerfield Beach HS) gained 244 yards of total offense, completing 13-of-24 passes for 176 yards and one touchdown and rushing 22 times for 68 yards in the contest. Junior wide receiver Roy Roundtree (Trotwood, Ohio/Trotwood-Madison HS) led the receiving effort with six receptions for 69 yards and one touchdown and senior/junior wide receiver Junior Hemingway (Conway, S.C./Conway HS) added three receptions for 50 yards. Sophomore tailback Vincent Smith (Pahokee, Fla./Pahokee HS) led the rushing effort with 99 yards on 18 carries and scored one touchdown. Junior/sophomore linebacker Kenny Demens (Oak Park, Mich./Detroit Country Day HS) and freshman safety Ray Vinopal (Youngstown, Ohio/Cardinal Mooney HS) had seven tackles apiece. Michigan's defense started the scoring with a 58-yard fumble return for a touchdown by redshirt freshman safety Cameron Gordon (Detroit, Mich./Inkster HS) at 9:43 of the first quarter. Sophomore defensive end Craig Roh (Scottsdale, Ariz./Chaparral HS) met the ball carrier as he received ball, stripped it, and Gordon scooped it up and raced down the left sideline to give U-M a 7-0 lead. The Wolverines stretched their lead to 14-0 as Robinson rolled right and found a wide-open Roundtree for a nine-yard touchdown. The third-down scoring play capped a five-play drive with Michigan capitalizing on great field position at Purdue's 38-yard line following a nine-yard punt. The key play that maintained possession for the Wolverines came as redshirt freshman Taylor Lewan (Scottsdale, Ariz./Chaparral HS) picked up a fumble and advanced it 11 yards to the Boilermakers' 15-yard line. Purdue chipped into the Michigan lead with a 20-yard field goal by Carson Wiggs at the end of the first quarter. The eight-play, 61-yard scoring drive consumed 4:53. The key plays on the drive were 20 and 27-yard runs by quarterback Rob Henry on back-to-back plays in the middle of the drive. Michigan forced the field goal as freshman safety Carvin Johnson (Metairie, La./Archbishop Rummel HS) made an open field tackle on a third-and-goal passing play to tight end Kyle Adams. Purdue's Ricardo Allen intercepted a Robinson pass and raced 94 yards for touchdown at 8:29 of the second quarter, trimming the Michigan lead to 14-10. The Wolverines had moved from their six-yard line to the Boilermakers' six before the interception. Purdue then pulled to within one point, 14-13, at 4:44 of the second quarter. Wiggs converted a 46-yard field goal to finish a 15-yard, five-play drive following a defensive stop at Michigan's 46-yard line. U-M went for a fourth-and-one at the 46-yard line, but freshman tailback Stephen Hopkins (Double Oak, Texas/Marcus HS) fumbled the ball and defensive end Ryan Kerrigan recovered. Unable to sustain a drive to open the second half, Michigan punted the ball into the wind, but Waynelle Gravesande muffed it and senior linebacker Kevin Leach (Kentwood, Mich./Grand Rapids Catholic Central HS) recovered at Purdue's 32-yard line. Redshirt slot receiver Kelvin Grady (Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) ran a reverse 13 yards around the left side on the initial play of the series. On the second play, Smith followed his blockers around the right side of the formation and took the ball 19 yards for a touchdown. Michigan missed the extra point to keep the lead 20-13 at 13:37. Purdue took advantage of another Michigan turnover as Wiggs converted a 40-yard field goal, his third of the game. The Boilermakers gained possession at U-M's 24-yard line following an interception and 13-yard return by cornerback Josh Johnson. The field goal made the score 20-16 at 9:38 of the third quarter. Michigan's defense set up the offense inside Purdue territory twice in the final 17 minutes of the contest, but U-M was unable to convert those opportunities into any points. Rogers collected his second interception of the game, but redshirt freshman Seth Broekhuizen (Holland, Mich./Holland Christian HS) pushed a 42-yard try wide right. A series later, Gordon recovered a fumble, but Michigan was forced to punt. Hopkins put the game away for the Wolverines with a three-yard touchdown run with 1:58 remaining in the contest. The key play on the drive was a 25-yard pass from Robinson to junior tight end Kevin Koger (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer HS) on third-and-seven that moved the ball to Purdue's 21-yard line. Michigan plays its final home game of the season against Wisconsin next Saturday (Nov. 20) at noon EST. The Wolverines will honor their seniors prior to the nationally televised contest on ESPN. (Michigan Stadium) Score: #6 Wisconsin 48, Michigan 28 Records: U-M (7-4, 3-4 Big Ten), Wisconsin (10-1, 6-1 Big Ten) Attendance: 112,276 (sellout) Next U-M Game: Saturday, Nov. 27 -- at Ohio State (Columbus, Ohio), Noon (TV: ABC) ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Sophomore quarterback Denard Robinson (Deerfield Beach, Fla./Deerfield Beach HS) racked up 360 yards of total offense (239 pass, 2 TDs; 121 yards, 2 TDs) to become the first NCAA quarterback to rush for 1,500 yards and pass for 2,000 yards in the same season while breaking the NCAA record for most rushing yards by a quarterback (1,538), but the University of Michigan football team could not overcome a 24-0 first-half deficit in a 48-28 loss to Wisconsin (No. 6 AP/No. 5 Coaches) on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 20) at Michigan Stadium. The Wolverines closed the deficit to 10 points twice in the third quarter before the Badgers used their relentless running game -- 357 yards and six touchdowns -- to pull away in the final stanza. Junior/sophomore slot receiver Roy Roundtree (Trotwood, Ohio/Trotwood-Madison) and junior wideout Darryl Stonum (Stafford, Texas/Dulles) were Robinson's main targets in the passing game. Roundtree surpassed 100 receiving yards (114) for the fourth time this season on seven catches and scored a touchdown, while Stonum accumulated 202 all-purpose yards -- 99 receiving on four receptions and 103 returning kickoffs -- with one receiving touchdown. Fifth-year senior linebacker Jonas Mouton (Los Angeles, Calif./Venice), junior/senior linebacker Kenny Demens (Oak Park, Mich./Detroit Country Day) and junior/sophomore safety Jordan Kovacs (Curtice, Ohio/Clay) each eclipsed double-digit tackles with 13, 13 and 12 stops, respectively. Mouton also recovered his third career fumble, and Kovacs notched his first career sack. Senior cornerback James Rogers (Madison Heights, Mich./Lamphere) tallied four tackles and an interception, his third in two games. The Badgers used four 70-plus yard drives to post 24 unanswered points in the first half. Wisconsin's running back tandem of Montee Ball and James White scored three rushing touchdowns -- two by Ball and one by White -- and the Badgers also split the goal posts on a 25-yard field goal. The Wolverines had an opportunity to interrupt the Badgers' point streak early in the second quarter, utilizing a 29-yard designed keeper by Robinson to move into Wisconsin territory, but the 30-yard field goal try hit the right goal post. Wisconsin threatened again with less than a minute remaining in the first half, but Rogers stepped in front of a Badger wide receiver near the goal line for an interception, keeping the score at 24-0. The Wolverines took the second-half kickoff and drove down the field in 10 plays as Robinson lobbed a 24-yard touchdown pass to Stonum along the right sidelines to end the Badgers' streak of 24 unanswered points with 11:03 left in the third quarter. Michigan's scoring drive was highlighted by two plays: Robinson's 12-yard record-breaking scamper and a fourth-down completion to senior/junior slot receiver Kelvin Grady (Grand Rapids, Mich./East Grand Rapids) for 12 yards. Freshman cornerback Courtney Avery (Mansfield, Ohio/Lexington) forced a Wisconsin fumble on third down after the Badger receiver had moved past the first-down marker that Mouton pounced on. Robinson rewarded the defense's effort by connecting with Stonum on a 34-yard pass play down the middle of the field, setting up his four-yard touchdown run on the following play. Robinson's 13th rushing touchdown of the season cut Michigan's deficit to 10 points for a 24-14 score with 9:23 remaining in the third quarter. After Wisconsin's White added his second rushing touchdown on the next drive, Robinson and Stonum put their stamp on the third consecutive touchdown drive. Stonum gave Michigan great field position near midfield with a 33-yard kickoff return. Stonum then took the Wolverines inside the Badgers' red zone with a 32-yard reception. Two plays later, Robinson rushed off the left tackle for an 11-yard touchdown -- his second of the contest -- to bring Michigan within 10 points once again with little time left in the third stanza. The Maize and Blue tried to continue the rally with a surprise onside kick following the score, but Wisconsin jumped on the ball first. Ball then punched in his third rushing touchdown and the Badgers added a 40-yard field goal to extend their lead to 20 points. Robinson hooked up with Roundtree on a 28-yard touchdown pass with 6:07 left in the contest, but Wisconsin posted their sixth rushing touchdown on the ensuing possession for a final score of 48-28. Michigan will travel to Columbus, Ohio, next Saturday (Nov. 27) to face Ohio State in the 107th edition of "The Game." The contest between the Wolverines and the Buckeyes is slated to kickoff at noon EST and will be nationally televised by ESPN on ABC. Contact: David Ablauf (734) 763-4423

Junior wide receiver Darryl Stonum (Stafford, Texas/Dulles HS) led the receiving effort with seven receptions for 81 yards and junior/sophomore Roy Roundtree (Trotwood, Ohio/Trotwood-Madison HS) added five catches for 43 yards. The Wolverines were led defensively by junior/sophomore Jordan Kovacs (Curtice, Ohio/Clay HS), who tied a career-high with 17 tackles, one tackle for loss and one interception. He stopped an OSU scoring drive before the half with his second interception of the season and returned it 41 yards. Fifth-year senior Jonas Mouton (Los Angeles, Calif./Venice HS) added nine tackles and one tackle for loss. Michigan took possession after a defensive stop and moved down the field before the drive ended on a fourth down incompletion by Robinson. The Wolverines reached the Buckeyes' 28-yard line before two consecutive incompletions. Robinson carried six times for 28 yards and added a 19-yard pass to Roundtree on third down to keep the drive alive in OSU territory. U-M had the ball for 12 plays and drove 45 yards in 4:39. After forcing another three-and-out, Michigan proceeded to move down the field, but a Robinson fumble was recovered by Nathan Williams at the nine-yard line. The Wolverines moved 73 yards in 10 plays prior to the turnover and converted two third down chances. Junior tailback Michael Shaw (Trotwood, Ohio/Trotwood-Madison HS) carried the ball over left end for 39 yards to OSU's 19-yard line. On third-and 17 from OSU's 26-yard line, Robinson scrambled and came close to the first down markers but was stripped by Orhian Johnson and Williams recovered the miscue. After a scoreless first quarter, Ohio State scored on two straight possessions to gain a 10-0 lead at 12:29 of the second quarter. Devin Barclay capped a 10-play, 74-yard drive with a 33-yard field. After holding the Wolverines to their first three-and-out, the Buckeyes scored the game's first touchdown on a seven-yard pass from Terrelle Pryor to wide receiver Dane Sanzenbacher. Ohio State gained possession at U-M's 35-yard line after an 18-yard punt by the Wolverines. Shaw got Michigan on the scoreboard with a one-yard run over left guard at 8:02 of the second quarter, trimming the deficit to 10-7. The Wolverines moved 80 yards in 11 plays and converted a four-and-two at OSU's 34-yard line with a 13-yard pass from Robinson to Stonum. Robinson went 20 yards on the play after the fourth down conversion and his dive toward the end zone fell half a yard short of the goal. OSU answered on the ensuing kickoff with an 85-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Jordan Hall to maintain the 10-point margin, 17-7. It was the first time that Michigan allowed a kickoff return for a touchdown since Washington State's Kevin Hicks went 97 yards on Sept. 4, 1993. After Michigan was unable to convert a fourth down attempt inside OSU territory, the Buckeyes increased their lead to 24-7 on a 33-yard touchdown pass from Pryor to wide receiver DeVier Posey at 3:06 of the second stanza. Ohio State moved 62 yards in six plays to score their second offensive touchdown of the game. Ohio State grabbed a 31-7 lead at 12:25 of the third quarter as tailback Dan Herron scored on a 32-yard run. The Buckeyes moved 70 yards in six plays. Safety Travis Howard intercepted sophomore quarterback Tate Forcier (San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch HS) on the first offensive play of the third quarter. Ohio State added a pair of field goals to stretch its lead to 37-7 after three quarters. Barclay converted a 36-yard field goal at 9:12 and he added a 23-yard field goal a series later. Michigan had a chance to cut into the Ohio State lead but turned the ball over on downs inside the 10-yard line at 8:15 of the fourth quarter and at 4:27 from its own 33. The Wolverines await their bowl invitation and match-up upon the conclusion of the regular season and conference championships.Contact: David Ablauf (734) 763-4423

Sophomore running back Vincent Smith (Pahokee, Fla./Pahokee HS) added four carries for nine yards. After holding the Wolverines on their second possession, the Bulldogs grabbed the lead, 10-7, on a 42-yard field goal by Derek Depasquale with 2:23 remaining in the first quarter. Mississippi State received great field position at U-M's 29-yard line after blocking a punt by freshman Will Hagerup (Milwaukee, Wis./Whitefish Bay HS). The Wolverines took the ensuing kickoff and regained the lead, 14-10, on a 27-yard touchdown pass to junior Martavious Odoms (Pahokee, Fla./Pahokee HS) with 34 second left in the first quarter. The Bulldogs continued the scoring affair with a two-yard TD run by running back Vick Ballard to grab a 17-10 lead. Nine of their 10 plays on the scoring drive were on the ground, the only pass being a 29-yard toss from Relf to Clark that set up a first-and-goal at U-M's five-yard line. Relf carried for three yards on the very next play and Ballard scored on second down. Mississippi State received possession in Michigan territory for the second time on the day as Robinson's third-down pass intended for senior/junior wide receiver Junior Hemingway (Conway, S.C./Conway HS) was intercepted on a diving catch by Jonathan Banks. The Bulldogs took over at Michigan's 43-yard line and converted a fourth-down and two third-down plays, including the one-yard scoring run over right end by Relf. The Bulldogs' scoring drive covered 43 yards in 12 plays and increased their lead to 24-14 at 6:35 of the second quarter. The Wolverines took the ensuing kickoff and moved to the Bulldogs' 31-yard line but were unable to convert a fourth down play relinquishing possession. Robinson tossed a 36-yard pass to junior tight end Kevin Koger (Toledo, Ohio/Whitmer HS) to move the ball to MSU's 42-yard line on the initial play of the series. Robinson added a 10-yard run to gain another first down before the series stalled on four consecutive plays. Mississippi State took a 31-14 lead with 25 seconds left in the first half as Relf completed a 15-yard touchdown pass to Ricco Sanders. The 11-play, 68-yard drive consumed 3:01. The defense forced the Bulldogs into their first punt on the opening series of the second half. Hemingway gave U-M excellent field position as he returned the punt 33 yards to the Bulldogs' 23-yard line. Michigan was unable to gain a first down and could not gain any points as redshirt freshman kicker Brendan Gibbons (West Palm Beach, Fla./Cardinal Newman HS) pushed a 35-yard field goal attempt wide left. Mississippi State increased its lead to 38-14 as Vick Ballard scored on a one-yard run over left tackle on a fourth down play. The pass intended for Hemingway was batted down by cornerback Johnthan Banks. Mississippi State increased its lead to 45-14 on a seven-yard touchdown run by Vick Ballard with 10 seconds remaining in the third quarter. It was Ballard's third rushing score of the game.
