Rhymes optioned back to Triple-A Toledo

By Alex DiFilippo / MLB.com

08/08/10 4:55 PM ET

DETROIT -- After his best game with the Tigers, the club announced second baseman Will Rhymes will be optioned back to Triple-A Toledo, effective Monday to make room for Carlos Guillen to come off the disabled list.

Rhymes went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored in the Tigers' 9-4 victory over the Angels on Sunday afternoon. It marked his first three-hit and multi-RBI game.

Rhymes made his big league debut for the Tigers on June 25 and filled the void while Guillen recovered from a strained right calf. He hit .259 with four RBIs in 15 games for Detroit.

"I know, personally, it's tough because you want to stay here," Rhymes said. "This is the only place to play. It's the best. You don't want to get sent down. But at the same time if you are up there thinking about [being sent down] when you are hitting or in the field, you won't succeed and you won't stay. You have to try and put that stuff out of your mind and go out there and play your game. But it's tough."

I'd rather have Rhymes range than Carlos. It sucks that on the day Rhymes hits better than any of the other Tigers, he gets sent back down. Hopefully he will be back up soon when Los gets injured again.
