Tigers defeated the Royals 8-4 after getting a productive outing from
Damon with two hits and two RBIs.
Justin Verlander got the start for the Tigers. He was on and off through five innings, giving up four runs before taking a seat.
Austin Jackson, acquired in the Curtis Granderson trade from the New
York Yankees, is congratulated by Magglio Ordonez after scoring a run
in the seventh inning. Jackson had doubled for his first-ever Major
League hit.
The Tigers' Carlos Guillen gets a base hit against the Royals in the season opener. Batting DH, Guillen had two hits.
Reliever Joel Zumaya throws a pitch. In one inning of work, he gave up one hit, with one strike-out.
Tigers second baseman Scott Sizemore pursues a fly ball. He went hitless but drew a walk.
Royals third baseman Willie Bloomquist fails to catch a fly ball by
Carlos Guillen in the first inning. Bloomquist received an error on the
play.
Royals starter Zack Greinke pitches in the first inning. The Kansas
City ace was solid through six, but the floodgates opened when the
bullpen took over.
