| I totally forgot today was MLK day. I start school tomorrow and I was wondering why it wasn't today....then the mail didn't come so I knew it must have been some sort of holiday.
There's too many holidays these days. I can't keep them all straight. The state of California has 13 for all state workers (those in bold should be eliminated)....
New Years Day Martin Luther King, Jr. Day Lincoln's Birthday President's Day Cesar Chavez Day Memorial Day 4th of July Labor Day Columbus Day Thanksgiving Black Friday (seriously...come on!) Christmas New Years Eve
No wonder the state is broke.
-------
Back when I worked we got 4 - New Years Day, Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day. They all paid time-and-a-half. | |

Reagan also

Keeping America Safe
Just like Bush did the last 8 years against terror | |

Give Federal workers more days off Don't they have too many already? That's part of the reason the country is broke. Start making them work 9 hours a day, 6 days a week but pay them the same...that'll help. Then again, that'll piss eveyrone off, too. | |

| Today they said there are more government workers in the US than manufacturing workers. That is just plain out of whack. Too many govt. workers and not enough manufacturing jobs!!! | |

By my count, there should only be 5 days off - New Year's Day, Easter, Independence Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas. (4 if you get rid of Easter since it's on a Sunday). | |

The celebrating part is in the evening anyways. Heck, 5th of July makes more sense than the 4th - productivity is way down on 7/5 due to hangovers and what not, I'm sure. I'd imagine that's why 1/1 is generally a holiday and not 12/31....technically there's more partying on 12/31 than there is on 1/1 - most parties start between 6 and 8 but very few last more than a few hours after midnight. While we're at it, Thanksgiving needs to move to Friday - that gives everyone a 3 day weekend. Who wants to work M-W, have one day off, work for a day, and then have 2 days off? It just doesn't make sense and tons of people take that Friday off to get a long weekend. | |

| Yeah, that'd work. Moving it to Monday might turn black Friday into Black Tuesday though and people would just call in sick.
If it was on Monday Black Friday would be Black Saturday and most people are off anyways. | |
