| Actually; having a tie game [ during the regular season] often helps teams make the playoffs
In 2002; The Steelers and Falcons tied 34-34
both teams made the playoffs that year
As did the 10-5-1 NY Giants in 1997
and the 9-6-1 Cleveland Browns in 1989

| However; The 1974 Steelers are the only team [ since the NFL went to OT] to play a tie game the same season they won the Super Bowl
The 1976 Vikings and 1987 Broncos each had a tie; but both lost in the Super Bowl | |
