Salò is a highly-controversial Italian film. The film takes place in 1944-1945 in the town of Salò. 9 women and 9 men are kidnapped and tortured in a secluded palace. That is pretty much the premise of the film. Supposedly the film parallels Dante's Inferno, but I am not familiar enough with The Divine Comedy to comment on this.

I don't really have much to say about this film. It was pretty odd and definitely not for children or squeamish viewers. The film remains banned in countries like Australia but I think that's taking it a bit too far. This film is an exploitation film of sorts so I could compare it to Cannibal Holocaust - I thought Cannibal Holocaust was a better film and I sort of got its message. This film has been praised by some critics but I don't quite understand what it's getting at. It might be worth a watch for some, but be warned - it is easily NC-17 worthy in terms of violence and sexual content.

50/100
