Galarraga joined Detroit's rotation in place of injured Dontrelle Willis and took his game to a struggling Indians lineup in his first Tigers start. By pounding the lower part of the strike zone and moving ahead in the count, the 26-year-old Venezuelan recovered from a first-inning home run to retire the next 17 batters in order before tiring in the seventh. It added up to his first Major League victory.

TOR: RHP Shaun Marcum (2-0, 2.61 ERA)
Marcum continued his impressive early-season run in his latest outing, in which he earned a win over the Orioles on the road on Tuesday. The 26-year-old right-hander yielded two runs on four hits, including a pair of solo home runs, with four strikeouts and three walks over 6 2/3 innings. For the season, Marcum has compiled 20 strikeouts over 20 2/3 innings. In his career against the Tigers, Marcum is 0-0 with a 7.36 ERA in three relief appearances.

Tigers third baseman Miguel Cabrera has hit safely in eight straight games and in 11 of his last 12 contests. The 25-year-old has driven in 12 runs over that span. ... Outfielder Clete Thomas matched his career high with three hits on Sunday afternoon against the Blue Jays. It was the second time he accomplished that feat. ...
