It's not a scary song - Barry McGuire is actually a Christian singer (not at the time, but he is now). In fact, "Eve of Destruction" is his only non-Christian song he sings regularly. Perhaps the video (which sucked...I hate the videos idiots create on youtube) scared you. The song is a Vietnam protest song. Most of it makes sense today. Well maybe not: "You're old enough to kill, but not for votin'" They finally fixed that... Another fun fact, his voice wasn't supposed to sound like that. He was going to sing it in a less rough voice later but that version was leaked and everyone loved it. He never fixed it. | |
