| 03/14/2008 8:44 PM ET Rain ends Astros-Tigers clash early Game called after one inning; Ordonez belts two-run homer By Alyson Footer / MLB.com
KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- The Astros and Tigers game was rained out after a 32-minute rain delay Friday night at Osceola County Stadium. The game was called prior to the top of the second inning with the Tigers leading, 2-0.
No makeup day was scheduled.
The Tigers scored their runs behind a two-run homer in the first frame off Astros right-hander Chad Paronto.
Paronto entered the game in the first frame when left-hander Wandy Rodriguez exited with a strained left oblique muscle after throwing two pitches.
Tigers left-hander Nate Robertson yielded one hit and struck out two in his one inning of work.
Grapefruit League records: Tigers 11-5-2; Astros 7-10.
Up next for Tigers: The Tigers have their only meeting of Spring Training with the Yankees on Saturday with a 1:05 p.m. ET game at Joker Marchant Stadium. Justin Verlander is scheduled to make his fourth start of the spring. Joba Chamberlain is slated to start for the Yankees split squad. The game will be broadcast on MLB Gameday Audio online and AM 1270 in the Detroit area.
Up next for Astros: The Astros will participate in split-squad action on Saturday. Half the team will travel to Winter Haven, Fla., to play the Indians at 1:05 p.m. ET, while the other half will remain home to host the Braves. That game is also at 1:05 p.m. ET. Roy Oswalt will start against the Braves, while Jack Cassel will start against the Indians.

| I sure don't blame you for being upset, Lap. To go all the way to FL to see the game, and then experence the normal Florida evening rain........ They should have scheduled this as a day game. | |

| funny thing was, it didn't stop! Usually these FL storms last 1/2 hr or so--this kept up all the way back to Lakeland...and hard! | |

| I looked on radar and it was a band of rain that came out of the Gulf and tracked right through the middle of the state. It was moving at a pretty good clip, but it looked like a good 1-2 hour band. We were all watching here, on MLB.TV, but knew there was no way it would stop in time to get the game in.
I sure don't miss those storms. Normally increase the stupid humidity, but FL sure needs the rain to raise the water table there. | |
