I can't talk much at all, because I'm working, but I'll start this thread just in case anyone wants to add something.

lineup for Det. is
Granderson
Polanco
Sheffield
Guillen
Casey
Monroe
Thames
Rabelo
Inge

Both Bondo and Meche are pitching their A games today. Hope it doesn't turn out to be another nail-biter. At the end of 4 innings, the pitchcount, strikes and balls stats for Bondo and Meche are 50, 32, 18 and 49, 32, 17 . Neck and neck.

Bondo's given up 1 hit, no runs, no walks, 4Ks ; Meche 3 hits, no runs, 1 walk (to Rabelo of all people!) 4Ks.

A real pitchers duel brewin'

Gotta love afternoon games...the thread gets a little bare.

I had to leave my desk for a minute, and I have no idea how they scored the run, but I am glad they did so.

Why does Leyland insist on putting "Crooked Hat" in the game? What has he shown to warrant such responsibility? He has only proved one thing in the past two years....you can't trust him. At least with Walker, he could get someone out; Rodney has no clue.

The bad news was Jonesy today in the 9th where he gave up two runs to tie the score 3-3. Went like this:

De Jesus walks on 7 pitches
German grounds out softly to Inge moving De Jesus to 2nd
Teahen doubles on the 5th pitch to RF (Thames) scoring DeJesus (1)
Sweeney singles on the 4th pitch moving Teahen to 3rd
Gload grounds into a force out, scoring Teahen (2)
Gordon walked on 4 straight pitches.
E Brown grounds out to end the inning

(and start the nail-biting!) DA.MN!

I wonder if the flu is in the clubhouse.

you obviously know nothing about baseball. rodney has allowed the game winning runs three times already in this very young season. His era is around 9. He is a waste of space in the bullpen.

Plus, the way he wears his hat is an embarassment to the tiger organization.

Okay, looking at it that way. However, today's game was a blown save by Todd Jones that is also part of the problem, also the Tiger's lackluster offense should shoulder some of the blame. Team sport, don't forget that.

Are you kidding? Most people (you included) - can't hit a 90 mph pitch in a batting cage. When they know where it is coming and what speed it will be at. Much less hit successfully against a major league pitcher.

I must know nothing about baseball. What is your suggestion instead of having Rodney pitch? Should the Tigers throw Zumaya every game? Are there better options in the bullpen? Last year Rodney and Jones were a huge part of a very successful baseball team that made it to the World Series on the strength of their pitching (bullpen included). Based on 15 games this year - we should do what? Get rid of those two? I must know nothing about baseball.

If you don't mind my chiming in here. let it be said, however, that this was the first time this season Jones blew a save. He was overdue for that. But this has certainly not been the first time this year that Rodney has let the team down.

With Rodney, it is not a question as to whether or not he has good stuff. He does. But I seriously question whether he can consistently handle the pressure of tight games. Since about midseason last year his ERA has been very high after starting off so well. But are his pitches any less effective? I think they're just as good as ever. But despite being among the top 6 in hits per nine innings and batting average last year, he is nowhere close to being among the better ERA pitchers among AL relievers. Translated: Rodney tends to lose focus, tends to overpitch when he has two strikes on batters, and is just not a blood 'n guts kind of pitcher. It seems to be all mental with him.

I think people need to get a grip about our relief pitching. Todd Jone blew a save today after getting 6-7 saves in this young season. It does happen even to the best of them. Just a few days ago Mariano Rivera got lit up by the Tampa Bay Rays for 3 runs. He blew the save and got the loss. Now Rodney is a different situation because he's been getting lit up a little too often. But otherwise, I think our relief pitching is in very good shape.

Tough game no matter how you look at it. When a team plays 162 games, there are going to be games like this. It is just a shame because Bonderman pitches a three-hit gem and he does not get the decision; and worse the Tigers lose the game. It's difficult to blame anyone person, even Jones because he has been very good this season so far. Even Mariano Rivera blows a save every now and then.

The problem is - who is suppose to correct this? Jim Leyland. Why hasn't he? Good question.
