Rangers hire Ryan as club president
Team will introduce Hall of Fame pitcher on Wednesday

ARLINGTON -- The Rangers are hiring Nolan Ryan as their new club president, team officials confirmed on Wednesday.

Ryan is expected to be introduced at a 3 p.m. CT press conference at The Ballpark in Arlington. Ryan has spent the past four years as a special assistant with the Houston Astros.

Ryan pitched with the Rangers from 1989-93 at the end of his 27-year Major League career. He finished with 324 career victories while setting Major League records with 5,714 strikeouts and seven no-hitters. He pitched two of those no-hitters with the Rangers.

He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1999. After he retired, he spent 10 years with the Rangers as a special assistant before moving to the Astros.
