The Tigers are close to acquiring right-hander Armando Galarraga from the Texas Rangers in exchange for outfielder Michael Hernandez, in a move that would provide Detroit with additional pitching depth.
Galarraga, 26, was designated for assignment by the Rangers on Jan. 25 in order to make room for the signing of Jason Jennings. He spent most of last year at Double-A Frisco and went 9-6 with a 4.02 ERA in 23 games. He also made three appearances with Texas.
Galarraga has one minor-league option remaining, which would allow the Tigers to send him to Triple-A Toledo without clearing waivers. | |
