Casey joins Red Sox by signing one-year contract

BOSTON -- First baseman Sean Casey has signed a one-year, $700,000 contract with the Boston Red Sox, according to ESPN's Peter Gammons.

Casey hit. 296 in 143 games last season with Detroit. He is a career .301 hitter in 11 major league seasons. He broke in with the Cincinnati Reds in 1997. He split time with Detroit and Pittsburgh in 2006 before returning to the Tigers for the entire 2007 season.

wahoo! At least we know he's been picked up! I don't really want to watch Red Sox but will because of him!

I am happy that Sean has been signed by someone. At least we will be able to watch him play this year.

Yeah, I'm with you. I just want him to be happy and get the chance to play. He is such a great guy!!!! They have a video of him at a press conference as a new Red Sox. It's funny.

Despite his lack of power numbers at 1B, I thought Casey was a class act (He was 'My Tiger' last year). I wish him every success.
