The Boston Red Sox (7/2 odds) are the team to beat in 2008, according to Vegas oddsmakers. The Detroit Tigers and New York Yankees (both 5/1) are the next two favorites.

The Cubs, Mets, Padres and Rockies have the best shot of the National League teams, in that order. The Cubs' 10/1 odds leads all National League teams, but is still just fifth overall, trailing the aforementioned American League teams, as well as the Los Angeles Angels (9/1). Don't blame Vegas, blame the betters. The odds are determined based on the bets. If the Tigers were 100/1 people would bet on them like crazy and Vegas would adjust the odds. If the Marlins were 2/1 nobody would bet on them so they'd adjust the odds. The odds are determined by the betters, not by Vegas.

The same works for point spreads. Patriots are 14.5 point favorites this weekend. That will change based on how people bet.
