Sorry about the huge delay in response. My cable company disconnected my internet and TV services because I didn't forget to pay the bill or something. It's fixed now.

Yeah, but what do you expect. Cable sucks. I've had to call them and have them fix my cable several times now in the 2 years I've lived here. At home we've had DirecTV for 10+ years and have NEVER once needed a service call (unless we were adding a DVR or something). I can't recall the picture ever going out.

Comcast is what sucks! We always had problems with our LOCAL channels getting fuzzy (especially channel 2). We switched to WOW 2 years ago and never had a problem. I know some people who had satellite and had worse problems. With the wind, trees, rain, snow around here, satellite is the worst thing to get here.

But I have to have satellite! How else would I watch the Los Angeles AND New York feeds of FOX, CBS, NBC, and ABC. Nothing like watching prime time 3 hours apart. You get tons of games on Sundays, too. Better yet, you can STILL get the local channels with all that.

Have you ever heard of Gothic Chess?

It's played using standard chess rules but on a 10X8 board instead of 8X8. You have 2 extra pawns and an archbishop which moves like a Knight OR a bishop (i.e., L-shaped moves or diagonal) and a chancellor which moves like a Knight OR a rook (i.e., L-shaped or on ranks and files).

Making it up? Hardly! It's a real thing. Apparently there's these things called "fairy pieces" (e.g., archbishop, etc.) and it turns out there's dozens of them. There's dozens of varieties of chess, too. Some of them are pretty stupid like suicide chess. The object of the game is to lose. If you are capable of capturing an opponents piece you MUST do it. There is no check/checkmate. First player to lose all his pieces wins.

There's a variety of chess where if you capture a piece the captured piece goes away, but your piece CHANGES COLOR. There's a version where you use 2 boards. Set up as normal but whenever you move your piece teleports to the corresponding piece on the other board. I could go on forever but just check out wikipedia.

For irregular chess Gothic Chess seems to be the most popular. Some grandmaster challenged Bobby Fischer to it last year but the match never took place. If you go to the wikipedia article and check out the 2nd external link you can download a gothic chess game. I tried playing against the computer but it killed me. When castling you move the king 3 pieces instead of 2 (I think).

I have to check that out! I've heard of the teleporting chess before though. And the 3-d chess, where there's three boards stacked on top of each other. I have no idea how to do that!

Yeah, those variations and more all exist. The only one that sounds all that great to me at the moment is Gothic Chess. The archbishop and chancellor are very cool pieces to have.
