Willis solid, not spectacular in debut
Lefty gives up one run in two innings, Cabrera drives in one

Indians at the plate: Ben Francisco had Cleveland's only two extra-base hits, resulting in two of its three runs. He homered leading off the second inning before his ground-rule double tied the game in the eighth. Grady Sizemore reached base safely in all three of his plate appearances, with two singles and a walk. Victor Martinez also added two hits, including an RBI single in the third.

Tigers at the plate: Placido Polanco and Miguel Cabrera each hit line drives deep into center field in a two-run opening inning -- Polanco with a triple, Cabrera with an RBI double. Brandon Inge added an RBI single. Ramon Santiago put Detroit back ahead in the sixth, when he singled in pinch-runner Marcus Thames. Inge added a pair of walks.

Indians on the mound: Starter C.C. Sabathia allowed two runs on five hits in two innings of work in his first outing of the spring. Aaron Laffey, Jeremy Sowers and Jensen Lewis following with a scoreless inning each before Jorge Julio gave up a run.

Tigers on the mound: Francisco's home run was the only run off of Dontrelle Willis in his first start as a Tiger. He worked two innings before Cleveland tied the game off of Todd Jones. Chris Lambert and Denny Bautista followed with two scoreless innings apiece. Tim Byrdak gave up the other run.

Grapefruit League records: Indians 1-1-1, Tigers 3-0-1.

Up next: The Tigers and Indians meet again Sunday afternoon with a 1:05 p.m. ET game in Winter Haven. Kenny Rogers will make his first start of the spring opposite Jake Westbrook. Cabrera, Carlos Guillen, Gary Sheffield, Edgar Renteria and Magglio Ordonez will be among those making the short bus ride across Polk County. MLB Gameday Audio will have the broadcast.

Veteran throws two easy innings; team loses pitchers' duel

Indians at the plate: First baseman Mike Aubrey continues to prove that when he's healthy, he hits. Aubrey ripped a two-out double to left off Matt Mantei to drive in a run in the fourth. That was his third RBI in as many games.

Tigers at the plate: It was a sleepy Sunday at the plate for the Tigers' starting lineup. Magglio Ordonez had the only hit among the regulars. They scored their only run in the ninth, courtesy of a bases-loaded walk.

Indians on the mound: Jake Westbrook, scratched from a previously scheduled start Thursday because of arm soreness, reported no issues after pitching one scoreless inning and another simulated inning in the bullpen. Non-roster invitee Scott Elarton looked sharp in two scoreless innings, in which all he allowed was a hit.

Tigers on the mound: Kenny Rogers' spring debut went off without a hitch. He gave up two hits and a walk in two scoreless innings, getting Jason Michaels to hit into an inning-ending double play in the first. Zach Miner worked a scoreless inning before Mantei let a pair across on two hits and a walk in the fourth.

Grapefruit League records: Indians 2-1-1; Tigers 3-1-1.

Up next: The Indians head off to Dunedin, Fla., for Monday's 1:05 p.m. ET game against the Blue Jays. Fausto Carmona will oppose Shaun Marcum. The Tigers return to Lakeland, Fla., to play host to the Rays, also at 1:05 p.m. Jeremy Bonderman will oppose Matt Garza.

Pudge, Cabrera power Tigers to win
Pair hits solo shots; ninth-inning single by Bowden difference

Tigers at the plate: Ivan Rodriguez led off the game with a home run, while Miguel Cabrera connected with a solo shot in the fourth inning. Cabrera ended up going 2-for-3 with two RBIs in the game. Joe Bowden drove in the game-winning run with a single to left in the top of the ninth inning off Chris Schroder.

Nationals at the plate: Matt Whitney hit a three-run homer against right-hander Zach Miner in the eighth inning. Lastings Milledge was the only member of the Nationals to collect at least two hits in Monday's game.

Tigers on the mound: Right-handers Justin Verlander and Armando Galarraga pitched a combined six shutout innings.

Nationals on the mound: Left-hander John Lannan pitched 3 2/3 innings and gave up three runs on five hits. Right-hander Tyler Clippard pitched 3 1/3 innings without giving up a run.

Grapefruit League records: Tigers 8-5-1, Nationals 6-7-1.

Up next: The Tigers have their second split-squad day of the spring Tuesday. Dontrelle Willis will make his third start of the spring when Detroit hosts Cincinnati at Joker Marchant Stadium. Elsewhere, Yorman Bazardo will make the start and Rick Porcello will pitch in relief in a road matchup with the Indians at Winter Haven, Fla. Both games start at 1:05 p.m. ET.
