BOSTON -- The Tigers' starting rotation has set a new record for most strikeouts in a postseason series.
Max Scherzer set the record when he struck out Boston's Mike Napoli in the fourth inning of Game 6 in the American League Championship Series on Saturday night at Fenway Park. That gave the Tigers starters 52 strikeouts in the ALCS, breaking the old record of 51 set by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 2001 World Series against the Yankees. The LCS record was 49, set by the Braves in 1991.
The Tigers as a staff began the night with 118 strikeouts in postseason. The record for most strikeouts in a single postseason is 150, set by the Rangers in 2010.
