Tigers: RHP Justin Verlander (13-8, 2.91 ERA)

Verlander has been hit around in two of his last three starts, including six runs on nine hits over six innings on Saturday vs. the Angels. In between those rough outings, however, were eight innings of one-run ball vs. the White Sox on Sept. 2.



White Sox: LHP Chris Sale (16-6, 2.88 ERA)

After an erratic first three innings in which Sale threw 66 pitches, he settled down to cruise through his final three innings in a victory over the Royals. Sale is 8-0 with a 1.20 ERA over his last nine home starts.




INJURY UPDATE:

• C Victor Martinez (left knee surgery, 60-day disabled list on March 12).
• LHP Daniel Schlereth (left shoulder tendinitis, 60-day DL on April 21).
