Mud Hens Opening Day roster announced!
04/01/2011 10:37 AM ET

The Toledo Mud Hens will start the 2011 campaign on Thursday, April 7 at Louisville Slugger Field at 6:35 pm versus the Louisville Bats. The team plays their first six games on the road (4 vs. Louisville and 2 vs. Indianapolis) before coming home for the Opening Day festivities on Thursday, April 14 at 4:00 pm. The team will have a nice combination of prospects, veterans, and many familiar faces.

Toledo will be celebrating their 10th anniversary of playing downtown at Fifth Third Field and their 25th consecutive season affiliated with the Detroit Tigers. Toledo has a record of 676-613 (.524) since moving downtown.

The team will be lead by first-year Manager Phil Nevin. The 40-year-old led Double-A Erie to a 66-76 record in 2010 and spent the 2009 campaign with the Orange County Flyers in the Golden Baseball League. Nevin played with Toledo briefly in 1995 and 1997 and played 1,217 major league games, including 160 games with Detroit.

Hitting Coach Leon "Bull" Durham (11th season), Pitching Coach A.J. Sager (4th season), Athletic Trainer Matt Rankin (11th season), and Strength Coach Kyle Bergman (1st season) round out the field staff.

ROSTER FUN FACTS:

  • Toledo has players from six different countries (Australia, Canada, Dominican Republic, Taiwan, United States, and Venezuela)
  • The average age of the team is 26 years old (youngest are Jose Ortega/John Murrian at 22 years old and the oldest is Timo Perez-35).
  • 15 of the players on the Opening Day roster have played with the Mud Hens prior to this season.
