Tigers raising ticket prices for 2011
Lynn Henning / The Detroit News

Detroit— The Tigers are raising ticket prices for 2011, the first price hike at Comerica Park in three years.

Two weeks before invoices are to be sent to season-ticket holders, the average premium ticket will get a $2.20 boost, with the average seat overall being hiked by 97 cents.

There will be a price decrease for 4,300 seats. In certain areas of right field and left field, $20 seats in 2010 will drop to $19, while some $29 tickets now will slip to $28.

There will be 17 separate price points between the highest- and lowest-priced seats, with the $5 ticket remaining for all games.

The high-end ticket in 2011 will be prime-time box seats for so-called "premium" games against the Tigers' marquee opponents. Those seats will move from $77 to $82, while mainstream lower-deck box seats will get a boost from $70 to $73.

Although the Tigers have not formally announced the price hike, team sources say higher overhead has made a slight increase necessary.

Prices remain lower at Comerica Park than at the places where Detroit's two biggest rivals play. Tigers tickets in 2010 were, on average, 27 percent lower than at U.S. Cellular Field, where the White Sox play, and 21 percent beneath the average price at Target Field, which is home to the Twins. The Twins are understood to also be raising their ticket prices ahead of next season.

The average price for a Tigers ticket in 2011 will be $27.50. Those who buy season tickets receive discounts in proportion to the size of the ticket package. An entire 81-game package is discounted $1,080 compared with the cost of 81 equivalent tickets bought on a per-game basis.

The last time the Tigers raised ticket prices was after the 2007 season.

Tigers adjusting ticket prices for 2011
Club expected to hold line on half the seats at Comerica
By Jason Beck / MLB.com | 11/01/10 3:29 PM ET

DETROIT -- The Tigers are tweaking their ticket prices for next season as they prepare to send out invoices to season-ticket holders, but they're expected to keep their average ticket price below the average among Major League clubs.

Ticket prices on nearly half the seats at Comerica Park will remain unchanged, both for regular and premium priced games, including the lowest-priced ticket at $5. A few sections in the lower level and the outfield will see a decrease in price. The rest will see an average increase of $2.20 per seat for individual game tickets -- more in some areas such as infield box seats, less in others.

For season-ticket holders, the average increase will be less, about 90 cents per ticket per game for a full-season ticket. The decision increases the discount on season tickets over single-game tickets.

Ticket prices for next year have not yet been formally announced. A team source confirmed the adjustments. The Detroit News first reported the story.

Other teams, too, have yet to announce their ticket prices. However, the Tigers are expected to remain in the middle of the pack among clubs in terms of the average price, and lower than average ticket prices for the division-opponent White Sox and Twins. Detroit's pricing on premium-level seating ranked in the bottom fifth of the Majors last year.
