Tigers staff, brass set for player evaluations
By Jason Beck / MLB.com | 09/27/10 6:50 PM ET

CLEVELAND -- The Tigers' 2010 season ends in six days, but their preparations for 2011 begin in earnest on Tuesday. That's when manager Jim Leyland and his coaching staff are scheduled to meet with team president/general manager Dave Dombrowski, scouting director Scott Reid and others in the front office to go over evaluations.

It'll be one of many gatherings the Tigers will have over the next several weeks, but it'll get the ball rolling on how they approach what has the potential to be their most interesting offseason in years.

Leyland said he has already talked with team owner Mike Ilitch, but wouldn't get into what that discussion entailed.

These early meetings generally involve talking about current players, of which the Tigers have many who will generate quite a bit of discussion. Brandon Inge, Jeremy Bonderman and Gerald Laird are eligible for free agency at season's end, and the Tigers have club options on Jhonny Peralta at $7.25 million and Magglio Ordonez at $15 million.
